I have oil on my spark plugs in my 2005 Saturn Ion 2. Wondering why the oil is on the spark plugs. If anyone can help that would be great. Thank you.
SOURCE: Oil in spark plugs
Could mean a variety of things.....
Possible head gasket leak....(cheap fix if caught early)
Possible Worn piston rings
possible valve guide oil seals
SOURCE: spark plug replacement
Plugs are under the coil pack. The black rectangle on top of the valve cover. Remove the plug on the drivers side, and remove the 4, 10mm bolts. Lift up the coil straight up. Will be fairly tough, and your plug wells are in there.
SOURCE: cant locate the oil filter or drain plug
the filter should be a cartridge type located underneath the enginecover plastic.it is usually on the right side of engine bay near the front of car.It will have a black plastic hex on the housing it is 1"and a quarter big and probably has a torque spec written on it something like 18 n-m or something.Hope it helps.

I just had this fixed on my suby today. The cause is that the spark plugs, go through the valve covers on the 2.5 l .When the o rings in the cover go, the result is oil in the spark plugs. The cost of the repair in Canada was about $500 including diagnostics as well as new plugs and wires About 1.5 hours labor and new seals and gaskets. It now runs like new. This is a common problem for this subaru engine as well as for the dodge neon.

Remove the center housing between the cams on the valve cover. Remove spark plugs, install in reverse order.
If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.
