I have had rotors that were so badly rusted that it formed a ridge behind the hub face, making them almost impossible to take off. If you\'re replacing the rotors anyway, don\'t be afraid to hit the damn things. Get a bigger hammer, and \'batter up!\'

Yes the torx screw must be removed and you are right the other two threaded holes you can use two bolts screw them in there after you remove the torx and it will push the rotor off the hub and the best way to remove the torx is with a impact driver it is like a screw driver you change the bits but you hit the end with a hammer which the tool then twists and removes the srew you can find them at any tool store prolly even autozone... and if you dont use bolts to push the hub off just use a brass hammer and pound off the rotor

SOURCE: 2006 Malibu Maxx - rotors were out of round.

In order to retract the pistons on the rear calipers you need to use a special tool that will rotate the piston in a clockwise direction. It may be possible to try to use a strong needle nose plier.Apply force against the U shaped slots on the piston and rotate clockwise until the piston bottoms out. Before you reinstall the caliper make sure that the recessed slots are at 12 and 6 "o"clock..the slots align with one or two bumps on the inside pad.
If you are having problems with your calipers rebuilt one are a good option. If only the caliper slide pins are sticking they can be cleaned and lubricated.Pin lubricant sometimes comes with a set of brake pads.Other than that lube may be purchased separately at an automotive supply store.

How do I remove the rear rotors on a 2002 Yukon Denali

  1. Release the park brake.
  2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
  3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  4. Mark the relationship of the rotor to the hub.
  5. Remove the brake caliper bracket mounting bolts.
Notice: Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic's wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from it's mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.

  1. Remove the brake caliper and brake caliper bracket as an assembly and support with heavy mechanic's wire or equivalent. DO NOT disconnect the hydraulic brake flexible hose from the caliper.
  2. Remove the rotor retaining push nuts from the wheel studs, if applicable.
  3. It may be necessary to strike the end of the hub or the rotor with a deadblow hammer to separate the rotor from the hub.
  4. Remove the rotor by slowly fuming the rotor while pulling the rotor away from the axle.
Installation Procedure

Notice: Whenever the brake rotor has been separated from the wheel bearing flange, clean any rust or foreign material from the mating surface of the rotor and flange with the J42450 hub cleaning kit. Failure to do this may result in increased lateral runout of the rotor and brake pulsation.

  1. Use the J42450-A to clean all rust and contaminants from the mating surface of the hub flange.
  2. Use the J41013 to clean all rust and contaminants from the inside diameter of the hub section of the brake rotor to prevent any foreign material from getting between the brake rotor and the hub flange.
  3. Install the rotor by slowly fuming the rotor while pushing the rotor towards the axle.
  4. Install the caliper and the bracket as an assembly to the vehicle.
  5. Perform the following procedure before installing the caliper bracket mounting bolts.
    • Remove all traces of the original adhesive patch.
    • Clean the threads of the bolt with brake parts cleaner or the equivalent and allow to dry.
    • Apply Threadlocker GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) to the threads of the bolt.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

  1. Install the caliper bracket mounting bolts.
    • For the 15 Series, tighten the brake caliper bracket mounting bolts to 175 Nm (129 ft. lbs.).
    • For the 25 series, tighten the brake caliper bracket mounting bolts to 300 Nm (221 ft. lbs.).
  1. Install the tire and wheel assembly.
  2. Lower the vehicle.
  3. With the engine OFF, gradually apply the brake pedal to approximately 2/3 of its travel distance.
  4. Slowly release the brake pedal.
  5. Wait 15 seconds, then repeat steps 9-10 until a firm pedal is obtained. This will properly seat the brake caliper pistons and brake pads.
  6. Fill the master cylinder reservoir to the proper level with clean brake fluid.

How to remove rotor on rear of 2005 dodge 3500? Do I need special equipment?

If you truck has a standard rear axle just remove the caliper and caliper adapter bracket, then the rotor will pull off. Sometimes if the hub face is rusted it may take a little persuasion to come off. You can hit it with a ball peen hammer between the wheel studs, this is usually enough to free it. If you have a dually you will need to remove the axle shafts first by removing the bolts around the outside of the axle housing then pull the shafts outward. Then remove the caliper and caliper adapter. Slide rotor and hub assembly off of axle, then unbolt the the hub from the rotor.

How to replace front rotor on 2005 pontiac vibe?I have removed caliper and caliper bracket do I need to remove axle nut and if so how?

once the caliper and bracket are removed, the rotors should just come off. These are hat style rotors and just slip over the hub. They do have a tendency to rust on, sometimes hitting them with a hammer between the studs will break them loose. some rotors have threaded holes between teh wheel studs that you can screw a bolt into to break them free.

Replace rear brake pads 2006 Chevy Impala

Hello, to replace the rear brake pads follow the following steps:

1. Lift the Chevy Impala with the jack and place it on jack stands.
2. Remove the wheels with a lug-nut wrench and set them aside. The lug-nut wrench can be found in the trunk of your Chevy Impala.
3. Remove the caliper with a ratchet and use a bungee cord to hang the caliper. Do not let the caliper hang from the brake hose, as the hose might break and cause fluid to leak.

4. Remove the brake caliper bracket from the steering knuckle with a ratchet. Set it aside.

5. Remove the break rotor from the hub. The rotor might require force to be removed; if it does, use a hammer to hit the rotor in the center, where the lug studs are located. Take care not to hit the studs.

6. Remove the new rotor from its packaging and use brake cleaner to remove the grease from the rotor. Grease is applied on the rotor in the factory to inhibit rust during storage.

7. Install the new rotor onto the hub.

8. Install the caliper bracket with new brake pads onto the rotor and fasten it to the steering knuckle. Use a ratchet to tighten the bolts.
9. Open the master cylinder reservoir so you don't break a seal while compressing the brake caliper.

10. Compress the brake caliper with a C-clamp, so that the caliper can fit over the new brake pads. Install the caliper by securing it to the brake caliper bracket with a ratchet.

Thanks

How difficult is it to cange the front rotors?

depending if you have the tools to do the job and pb blaster lock tite and white and dark grease for a beginer it has a rating of 7-8. if you work on cars and know what your doing, then its easy.. first thing is to remove the calapers then remove the calaper mounting bracket spray around the studs and bolts with pb blaster also around the hub and tap around the whole area around rotor dont hit the studs (with hammer) to break the rust buildup this should break rotor free then you may want to clean the rust off so that the rotors seat properly remove and clean new rotors with brake cleaner to get off the film off them (shipping rust retardent) and wipe. spray bolt holes to clear any rust left while removing old rotor and braket and dry. place a small ring of lock tite on bolts holding caliper brackets and let stand till harden or almost hard. replace new rotors install bracket/s and bolts (torq to ? 80foot lb) while replacing rotors replace brake pads, replacing just rotors will over heat new rotors in spots and warp rotors!!! make sure you pull the pins that retain the calipers to the bracket and add light coat of white grease to pins so calipers slides easy and evenly

Can't get my rotors off the front of my 2003 chevy avalanche

if you have removed the two allen bolts from the caliper bracket and removed the caliper, and it still won't come off, then hit the rotor with a rubber hammer, and it'll come right off. They get a little rust where they rest on the hub and can be slightly resistant to coming off.
