I disconnected the catalytic converter from the engine manifold to test it but the same thing is happening. ??

    ANy other suggestions ?

    Thanks

No the engine uses normal oil. Once the car starts then it is ok. It takes a few tries to start and then misfires or a few minutes then as u accelerate, it gets ok.

Why does engine stutters when car is stopped

If you are talking about a missfire, you should have a check engine light and trouble codes stored in the engine computer.

I have a 2004 F-250 6.0 stuttering at start

FICM, fuel injector control module. About $800 installed by your dealer. They come blank and must be programed by the factory/dealer computer. This is the big silver box on the driver side valve cover. Check connections first. The FICM converts battery power (12.4 vdc) to 48 vdc for fire the injectors. Wont work if your batteries are not up to snuff. This is a common item to go bad on vehicles with this discrepancy. It can be bypassed (the injector heaters) by disconnectiong the alternator wire that leads to the passenger side battery (if its warm outside) it may start and get you to a dealer.

This is what you need to do, change the plug wires, because if there is a bad wire you would definitely experiences sputter or a stutter, so do the plug wires and at the same time do the spark plugs, this should take care of your problem. if not let me know and i will give you the next step

Engine stuttering

have you replaced your O2 censor yet? or changed your air filter lately. I know our avenger is pretty picky we had a dirty air filter once and it seemed like the O2 censor went out because it kept trying to shut off when the idle was lower. a new air filter did a bit for it then we got a censor reader that you plug into the brain box of the car or the cigarette lighter and it told us the O2 was out and our car was doing the low idle thing. after we fixed it no problems.
