The computer controls idle speed-not adjustable. Check your idle control valve or motor for proper operation. Clean your throttle body with throttle body intake cleaner-get all the old carbon, varnish, and gum deposits removed. Check for any diagnostic trouble codes. Check that your air filter is clean. Your MAP sensor might need testing by a shop, or see if a known good one helps.

Dependent on what year you have. If it has an idle speed motor that could be cleaned as well as the throttle body. Idle speed motor may need to be replaced sometimes a good cleaning hooks them right up.

been having the same kind of trouble with mine, Have been told that the fuel sock on the fuel pump may be glogged and that I should drop the tank and clean it out and repace that fuel sock to stop the problem, my Chilton's manual says to depressurize the CFI, but i cant figure out how, does anyone know how, or if this might fix the problem, I've been told if it doesnt I may need a fuel pump.

check your fuel pressure, both engine off, key on, and engine running. compare it to specification for your car. CFI is throttle body injection, and the pressure on most is about 13-19...check your specs. easier than dropping the tank to check the strainer. Tp relieve pressure, take out the fuel pump fuse and run the engine until it dies-runs out of fuel-very low pressure in the lines then, a lot of drips though, have a rag handy. and also checking the fuel pressure is pretty definitive if you need a new fuel pump or not.

When you turn the key on does the check engine light come on? If not it may be burned out. It sounds like a MAP sensor or an O2 sensor is bad. I would suggest taking it to autozone as they do free diagnostic and seeing if a code comes up. If it is a sensor it should, if not it may be the idle sensor not reading right in the ECU. More than likely it is one of the sensors though.

1999 FORD CROWN VIC. 4.6 - PROBLEM, NOISE

This is caused by the IAC valve. Over time the valve becomes gummy and inoperative. Get it replaced and the problem is solved. IAC stands for idle air control, hence the stalling concern.

My 4.6 idles erratically.

try the following, if that doesn't correct it u may need to replace the air bypass valve.
Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle rough idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve (IAC for short), they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

1997 Crown Vic blows radio fuses

The quickest way to find a short circuit is by putting a bulb in place of the fuse. Anytime the time the bulb lights there is a load. And if the load is a shorted wire the brightness of the bulb will give you a hint. So while you're at it, finding a 'short' is a quicky...keep your eyes on the bulb. gotcha!
