How to replace fuel pump in a 1988 dodge aries 2.2
Need to know what I need to do to replace the fuel pump. Whether there is a plate inside the backseat or trunk to gain access, or if I have to remove the gas tank to get to it.

I'm pretty certain they did not have access plates or holes for the fuel pumps back in 1987. That came many years later. You will have to remove the tank for this job, so get ready to get dirty. You will be fighting a lot of rust and built up dirt. Take your time, use plenty of penetrating oil on all the bolts, screws, and fittings and let it soak in for a reasonable amount of time.
There's no access hole. Need to drop fuel tank. You also need a special tool to release the fuel lines. They can be purchased at autozone or similar for a reasonable price.

yes you have to remove tank and filler hose connections and any wire connectors most pump attach with a c-clamp with is hit off with a hammer and drift then you can just pull out pump.
Just drive it in with a hammer. Then pull it out with vice grips. Then drive the new one in straight with a big socket and a hammer. You might need to remove some stuff to get a staight swing with the hammer.
