2005 nissan wont start after running out of gas

Filled it up with gas got it to start it sputtered and smoked a bit it ran ok for a couple miles until i got home but will only start for about 30 seconds sputters and dies still puffs out black smoke. what can it be? did i possibly ruin my fuel pump? or can it be the filter? I think the filter is in the pump i'm not sure

Black smoke is an indication of unburnt( too much )fuel, did you put the correct fuel in it?

  • Anonymous Feb 16, 2009

two more questions i,m afraid, is it fuel injection, and did you rn out of fuel totally?

  • Anonymous Feb 16, 2009

sounds like you got air in the system causing inconsistent information to the injection cpu, i,m afraid its going to have to go into a specialist , injection systems need to be pressurised, i doubt there is any major damage.

What do these codes mean on a diagnostics check? c, ev, o, oh,e? what are these numbers for ISO9141 KWP2000 and why does it steady blink on monitor then say backfire problems?

you need to read the manual for the machine you are hooking to the vehicle .
These are errors not codes you need to understand how it works better.

Sputtering while driving and running funny.

It could be a clogged fuel filter or you could have a old gas coated inside the carbrator. Seafoam will fix that up in a hurry. Don't be supprised if it blows smoke its cleaning all the junk bout of your carbrator. I would start with the simpelist things first. Fuel filter Check your carbrator Throttle adjustment Fuel pump relay Defiantly get a Haynes manual it will trouble shoot you through your problem.

My 2008 nissan sentra ran out of gas and now wont start. Can I just put gas in and expect it to start or is something else messed up with computer possibly??

It will take it a little bit to get fuel pumped back up to the engine. When you run out of gas you have a lot of fuel line to fill up before gas ever gets back up to the intake.
