When you turn key to on position, not start position, you say you cannot hear pump hum for a few seconds, correct ? first check fuses, then find fuel pump relay, it may have a fuse in it also. I would replace relay first. after the fuses of course. if you still don't hear pump run, then your pump is most likely the problem. its in your tank. one more thing, make sure all grounds are good in this circuit. it could be that simple. good luck

Car turns over but wont start checked timing distibutor fuses fuel filter i dont know what else to do

You need to see if your fuel pump is running. When you turn the ignition on you should hear the hum of your fuel pump running for a few seconds. If you don’t hear it then check your fuel pump fuse then relay.

If your fuel pump is running check the fuel pressure at your fuel rail on top of the engine, depending on year, make and model.

Wont start fuel spark

You can check for power at the pump relay, or jumper it to make the pump run.

Problem with 2000 ford taurus fuel pump

If the pump is running but not pumping gas, it's a bad pump or a clogged filter sock in the tank

1999 gmc sierra 2500 6 liter ran out of gas now won't start

If you are at or near the 100,000 mile mark then your fuel pump may have failed. If you remove the fuel filler cap and listen carefully at the filler neck while someone turns the ignition key to "run" [don't actually crank the engine] you should be able to hear the fuel pump buzz for about a second and a half as the key is turned On. If you don't hear the pump buzz then odds are your pump is dead. Your pump may have actually failed making it appear as though you ran out of fuel. Not to uncommon. Hope this helps and good luck!

I ran out of gas and now my van doesnt start ,i out 20 litres of gas in it ,,could you tell me why or what the problem is thanks kev

If you ran completely out of gas while the engine was running, it could have damaged the fuel pump. Fuel pumps don't like to run dry. An easy way to check the fuel pump is to lay down on the ground with your ear as close to the gas tank as you can get. While you're on the ground, have someone else turn the key to the 'On' position but do not try to start the engine. When the key is switched on, you should hear a faint hum, or buzz coming from the gas tank. If you hear it, then your fuel pump is working. If you don't hear it, then it has gone bad.

Good Luck!

I have a 1994 chevrolet cavalier 2.2L problem is it cranks and gets spark to all cylinders, have tested with tester to be sure, but it does not turn over and start what else could it be?? please help

Is it getting fuel? Have you tested the fuel pressure? You may have a faulty fuel pump or fuel pump relay. Can you hear your fuel pump buzzing. Remove your gas cap and have someone turn the key to the run position while you have your ear near the open gas tank. You should hear the pump making a buzz. If you don't hear anything you have a bad fuel pump or problem in the electrical circuit to the pump. If you do hear it running you still need to check the pressure. If the pump is buzzing it still may not be working correctly. You could try giving it a shot of starting fluid and if it runs on the starting fluid you know you have a fuel related problem. Be careful with the starting fluid because it is very flamable.

93 Jimmy with 4.3 vortec, Won't start, no spark. Changed cap, rotor, coil and ignition module. What would be the problem.

Have you checked your fuel pressure? Can you hear your fuel pump buzzing. Remove your gas cap and have a helper turn the key to the run position while you have your ear close to the open tank. If you don't hear anything you have a fuel related issue. Even if you hear the pump buzzing you need to check the fuel pressure as it may not be making enough pressure. If no buzz you may have a bad fuel pump, pump relay, or wiring problem to the pump. That is where I would start.
