Fuel pump replacement on a 1996 Buick Regal, 3.8L 6cyl, how

I need to replace the fuel pump on a 1996 Buick Regal 3.8. There is no pressure at the gas rail, all fuses and relays have been checked good, no sound coming from pump when ignition is turned on. How do you remove it?

The pump is inside the gas tank, so the tank has to be drained and then removed from the car.
Make sure you have power and ground at the harness going into the tank before you drop it.

Is the harness the one that comes through the trunk? Grey , purple and black wires. I only seem to be getting 8.7 VDC on the purple wire.

That's probably it. Most cars have the harness running under the car. The gray wire should be power into the pump and black is ground. The purple is usually the ground going up to the fuel gauge. Keep in mind, the pump relay is only hot for 3 seconds when you turn the key switch on.

there should be a relay that controls the power to the fuel pump, it sounds like this has stopped working you will have to look up in your owners man were it is, try giving it a small tap with the handle of a screw driver and see if it stars working if so replace it

You have a problem in the fuel pump relay circuit for sure then. I'm betting the relay, but it could be that dropping resistor.

SOURCE: I have a 2000 buick regal,3.8 that will not

u can try replacing the relay. when u turn the key to the position right before starting position which is the position it would be in when u start a car and let off key because car started, well this is somting to try turn the key to position right before starting position have sombody listing down by fuel tank and see if tey can hear pump come on, try a couple of times to make sure they can hear, also the pump will only come on for about 2 seconds each time u put the key in that position, if u do hear the pump come on each time u do that that means pump is working if so u need to build up fuel pressure which could b anywhere from 20 to 60 pressure, to build up pressure u need to turn the key to same position turn key off turn key back to that position then off and do it like 50 times each time u do that the pump is on for only 2 seconds only building a half to one pound of pressure thats why u haft to turn key somany times to build it back up, if u try that and car keeps almost starting but doesent then u need to build up a little more pressure. NOTE make sure u have gas, also most electric fuel pumps will go out when turned on dry

How do you replace fuel line on 1996 buick regal 3.8

I am assuming you are referring to the fuel line that runs from the fuel filter back and goes over the fuel tank. If that is the case. 1. remove fuel pump relay, then crank car and allow car to run until it dies (this will purge the fuel from the fuel line, not necessarily required but a good idea). 2. use 2 wrenches to remove line from fuel filter. 3. trace line back over fuel tank until you get to the clip that attaches fuel line to fuel pump. clip is simple to remove just like the one on the outlet side of fuel filter. if looking for the replacement part. hit the junk yards I paid $15 at a you pull a part place verses 85+ through a dealer (this part is not carried by the auto parts places here in GA)

Have you ascertained whether your fuel pump is functioning as it should? It might be worthwhile to remove the fuel line after the pressure regulator and allow it to pump for several minutes, catching the fuel in a container of course. With the hose free, the pump should continue to work rather than shutting off after pressure is attained.
Fuel pumps seem to be a fairly frequent problem in GM cars. Unfortunately, if it is a failing pump, I think yours is located in the gas tank.

1996 f-150 4wd 6cyl. crank sensor problems

Most of the time this means low fuel pressure, check the fuel filter to see if it is stopped up,if so,replace it,if not, then have the fuel pressure checked to rule out fuel pump.
