Tranmission stuck in park, ABS,Brake, engine lights all stay on.

The 20a fuse for the ERLS under the hood keeps popping. I can put in a new one and quickly start the car and get it out of PARK. It drives forward and reverse ok. When I put in back into PARK, it stays stuck in PARK?? I checked the brakes, fluid, etc. all seem to be operating properly. connections are all plugged in as well. Any ideas?

Something major is wrong. There is some problem in the system that keeps blowing fuse. My guess is something wrong with ABS system causing wheels to lock up. Take vehicle to a credible repair shop with the light on the shop will be able to pinpoint the exact problem.

Shift interlock safety system . This does not allow to shift the vehicle out of park unless the drivers foot is pushing on the brake pedal . Parts invovled , lock solenoid ,brake switch , wiring . The fuse that keeps poping powers the shift interlock system ,along with back up light's , Canister purge an vent valves , EGR ,
ABS , A/C compressor , park lock solenoid , VES - variable effort steering . The thing's you checked have nothing do with it , you have an electrical short on one of these system's circuit's . Unless you know how to test automotive electrical circuit's ,your best bet ,take it to a qualified repair shop.

SOURCE: 1994 Toyota Camry automatic. All forward no reverse

are you sure it is first gear it is making when in 1. In park does the car lock up if you try to push it with the handbrake off. If not your problem is adjustment of the cable i.e. although the lever is in reverse the gearbox isn't.

SOURCE: Won't shift out of park

Look to see if the brake lights work. If they do not come on when the brke pedal is depressed, the fuse may be blown. The brake electrical circuit also controls the shift interlock. You can take the vehicle out of park manually by removing the small square trim tab by the shifter, and pressing the button under it.

SOURCE: Brake & ABS Warning LIght

There is a known failure of the ABS system control board which typically causes this problem. THere are companies out there that will rebuild your current board (if it's rebuildable). Do a search on ABS repair in Moscow, Iowa.

They will rebuild the module for $150.00 and warrant the repair for 5 years (as opposed to up to a $1000 form GM, and no guarantee as to how ling it will last.).

I did this to my '01 Tahoe and am real happy with it. The company offers diagnosis tests to help you determine if the problem is your ABS module.

Reply back what you find.

SOURCE: 94 Camaro V6 transmission in reverse on all shifter settings

check to see if your shift cable is stretched or broken, also look on the transmission itself to make sure that the lever where the cable attaches to is not bent. also you can check under the shifter itself and make sure the linkage there is all ok. it sounds like your shifter cable is the cause for your problem.

if the cable is ok and you can see the shift lever move on the transmission than the next likely cause would be the valve body in the transmission.

ABS light is on . Braking is now being effective.

If the abs light is on it is one of a couple things that come to mind.
1. The fuse for ABS under the hood has blown
2. You have a bad ABS sensor on one/more of your wheels

Does the light stay on all the time, or does it come on when you turn into a parking spot and apply the brake(usually making a humming noise that you can feel in the brake pedal)?

Brake and abs lights stays on in a 2003 gmc safari wile driving after a small period of time. put new pads and there's no leaks in the calipers

Have the ABS Distribution Unit/Computer checked at the dealer.

NOTE: ABS Unit located under the vehicle, under the drivers seat. Listen to it with the vehicle running with no brake on... if you hear ABS motor running continuously, unplug ABS fuse in fuse block under hood to turn ABS motor off and be able to use vehicle in the meantime whether you decide to get the ABS fixed or not.. This will not affect brake operation, but will disable ABS feature. ABS and Brake idiot lights will remain on. No way to turn them off short of having the correct repair done. ABS Distribution Unit/Computer is very expensive part and requires expensive labour for replacement.

Where is my transmission fuse located?

There is an under-hood fuse box that houses several relays and fuses. The box is located under the hood near the battery. It has a cover over it, but isn't very big -- maybe 3" by 8". The ERLS fuse covers the automatic transmission (as well as the backup lights, canister purge valve, canister vent solenoid, EGR valve, ABS, variable-effort power steering, and AC compressor). The fuse is a 20A mini-fuse. It should be yellow.
