Usually when a truck gets stuck in 4 low you need to put it in reverse, start backing up very slowly, put it in neutral (or push in the clutch on manual trans models) and stop the truck with the brakes. this will release the load on the gearing which should allow you to shift out of 4 low.

All GM trucks from 1995 to now have a electronic actuator on the transfere case to shift from 2 wheel to 4 wheel and 4 wheel low. sounds like a bad actuator, but first check thew fluid level in the transfere case

There is a common electrical problem (corrosion on the connectors at the transmission computer inside the vehicle on the passenger side behind the kick panel) with 1999-200X GMC and Chevy "S-10" based (S-10, Sonoma, Blazer and Jimmy) 4WD vehicles that will prevent the trucks from shifting out of 4WD once it is engaged and the truck driven for any length of time over a minute or so. The way to reset the system to allow the truck to be shifted back into 2WD is to disconnect one of the cables to the battery and let the truck sit like that for a couple of minutes. Reconnect the battery and once in the vehicle hold the 2WD button down (and keep holding it down) prior to starting the engine. Once started the truck should be back in 2WD mode

I forgot to mention that to shift into and out of 4WD low it is necessary to have the transmission in neutral. This is a completely separate issue from the electrical problem described previously.

SOURCE: 1995 gmc jimmy will not shift out of 4wd high

sounds like the vacuum lines are either pinched or the vacuum pump is shot. try getting a mechanic look at the lines on and around your transfer case... also try checking the fuses for the 4wd selector. let me know how it goes

My truck is stuck in 4LO and it won't come out of 4LO.

Likely either a shifter position sensor, transmission position sensor, or a differential position sensor. Had same issue w/ my Montero and it ended up being one of the 5 sensors on the transfer case. It was pretty tough to get to, so replaced all 5. That fixed it.

My 2001 GMC Jimmy is stuck in 4 Lo.

i believe those are vacuum controlled on top of the transfer case is a plug with 3-4 vacuum lines going to it,you will need to take it out and see if the check ball is stuck if it is it needs to be replaced
