ETS light comes on and off

1999 Volvo S70 - I seem to be getting a number of warning lights that go on and off. 1) Brake light then speedometer shuts down. 2) ABS light goes on and off 3) Check Engine 4)ETS light goes on (car runs fine) but they seem to cycle back. Is this a sensor problem with the S70 and is it a recall issue? ...or do I need a new engine computer, and better yet can I install it myself?

I know this is a very old post but to anyone reading this now, I had a similar issue with my 2000 V70XC. The flashing up arrow, check engine light, and abs light came on and both my speedometer and odometer needles dropped. I replaced the ABS module twice which can be quite spendy...unfortunately this did not fix my problem. Then, in addition, my ETS light came on as well and my car would not accelerate over a certain amount. I would HIGHLY recommend having your mechanic check out both your fuse box connections and wire harnesses as this ended up being the problem for me. For whatever reason no mechanic ever thought to look into these as cause. Good luck!!

Just to add to it. Volvo Darin is right, but the extended warranty period was for 10 years or 200,000 miles. It depends on your warranty start date. Being a 1999 it could or could not be covered.
Don't wait any longer, because there is NO help or extension of this warranty after 10 years.

There are two problems here. First you need and abs control unit. They are very expensive and it is possible to rebuild them. A couple of places to call: ATE, Auto Truck Electronics, they are in Florida, and BBA Remanufacturing near Boston, MA. I have used both companies and they charge much less to rebuild them than it costs to purchase a new one. That should take care of the speedometer, brake light, and ABS light. As for the check engine, that could be anything and the car will need to be scanned. ETS light can be remedied by a trip to the dealer. There is a campaign to install new software to the Electronic Throttle Controller. This is no charge to the customer and I believe the car has to be under 200,000 miles.

I have a 1999 volvo v70 awd I have no power when i drive it. The car doesnt seem go past 2000 rpms. My ets light comes on and the car wont go over 30 mph.

This was a common problem on 99's and up. It is usually a permanent fault of the throttle body. The fix can only be done at a dealer as they have to download software to the unit itself. Good luck.

I have a 1999 s70 volvo and the ETS light is on , what can i do ?

Most of the time this requires a replacement of the unit itself. This is a very common problem and can be confirmed by a diagnosis at the dealer. Installation of a new one requires a software download and must be done at a Volvo shop.

ETS light is on on my 1999 S70 GLT

The ETS is the "elecronic throttle system". You either need to get a software upgrade for it, most of the time it wont take. More than likely you will have to replace the throttle body. I would bring it to the dealer. Unless you have VADIS there is nothing you can do. VADIS is what the onboard diagnostic computers the dealerships have for diagnosing your car.

Volvo abs lights stays on

Usually the ABS computer knows what it is doing. You may want someone to hookup a scanner to the ABS test port.
When I had my speedometer and odometer act up, it turned out to be a bad alternator. You might want to check yours.
