There may be an oil pressure sensor that is telling the computer that there is no oil pressure. That will shut the car off. Either there is not enugh oil pressure or the sensor is malfunctioning.

SOURCE: shut off while driving

Before you buy a fuel pump replacement, the cause of the shut-off may be an electrical ignition system malfunction:

Where is the fuel pump rest button on my 2000 Mitsubishi eclipse

No where only Ford had it no one else

The Eclipse (and all Mitsubishis actually) does not use a fuel pump shut off switch. That is a Ford innovation specifically that is not really used outside that brand for the most part.

The safety mechanism on the Eclipse for the fuel pump is the engine crank sensor. The fuel pump only runs when it sees RPM signal from the crank sensor.
The purpose for this is that if you are in an accident that was significant enough to cause a fuel leak, the lack of fuel would cause the engine to shut off, which would thereby shut off the fuel pump preventing fuel from pumping all over the place.

If you have no fuel pump operation, first make sure you are checking for power to the fuel pump while cranking. It does not have any constant or key-on power, it does not work that way.
If you have power but no pump operation, the pump is likely failed (though this is rare).
If you do not have power while cranking, check to see if you have spark.... if there is no spark either, double check your fuses first then if all are OK suspect the crank sensor is faulty.
If you do have spark, then you would want to carefully check your wiring, relay, etc for damage.

Realistically... 95% of "fuel pump problems" are failed or low quality aftermarket crank sensors on these cars. They get towed in all the time with brand new fuel pumps from other shops when all they needed was a crank sensor

Car loses power shuts down

I suspect that the ECU is having problems, specifically leaking electrolytic capacitors on the circuit board. These caps can cause a short circuit to ground (which may cause the radio issue) and then leak electrolyte all over the board. The ECU cannot control the engine properly when this happens. Pull the ECU out, open the can and look at the board. Caps may be bulging or leaking, may be a fishy smell. There's a company in Florida (?) that does Mitsu (and other Japanese) ECU rebuilds for about $200 with a guarantee. Google search them.

Check all the ground points from the engine, harness to the firewall (loosen and tighten the bolts/nuts).

May also be the MPI relay that controls power to the ECU and the fuel pump. It's a big can near the ECU.

I have a 2000 eclipse and the night before it ran fine. The next morning I went to start it and it cranks but that's about it. I checked for spark and after I cleaned the oil off there was spark, but...

Providing a accurate diagnosis is difficult. All previous advice could be correct.

I'd look into the fuel delivery issue first. The MPI (fuel pump) relay is controlled by the engine computer (ECU). If this is OK, your Check Engine Light should be off. A test with an OBD-2 code reader will tell if the ECU really is OK, and show any error codes.

If the ECU is OK, and the fuel pump is getting power, open the gas tank cap and see if this helps the car to start. (might be worn pump issues).

If you are actually getting fuel and spark, a no-start condition will generally throw an ECU error code, see above. There may be a crank or cam sensor that has failed.

The next thing to check is that the timing belt has not slipped a few teeth. This does happen. Your engine is probably a 4G64, and you MAY get away with it without bending valves. Or maybe not.

Where is the fule filter on Eclipse 2000?

2000-2004 Eclipse models have adopted a fuel pump module which includes a fuel filter.

Fuel filter replacement is not listed in the maintenance table.
If yo think the filter is clogged the entire fuel pump module will need to be replaced.

Losing power to the fuel pump

well that sounds like a relay. if your car is an automatic, double check than you replaced the ASD and fuel pump relays and not the trans control relay.
if its not the relay, its probably the ECU(PCM).

2000 eclipse will not start

you may have to run a hot to it from the fuse box but make sure you hook into a fuse that shuts off when you turn the key off so the pump will shut off as well
