Fuel jag xj6 4L sport wont idle and is putting out a lot of white smoke is it the idle speed control or the Mass Airflow sensor.

1 Answer

A

White smoke is usually coolant that went thru the cylinders,
such as a failed head gasket or other reasons

Could also be fuel- but that wouldn't be a continual visual
site when driving

STOP USING IT ---get it fixed Don't ruin a nice car

Have a repair shop that knows Jaguars do the necessary testing Do not install parts yourself on a Wish & Hope Theory

    ok, tanks.

No one can tell you what is wrong with any vehicle problem Only proper testing will do that When you say how do( I) go about something ,do you mean you personally make a repair This web site is full of people for have lots of secrets & share nothing with us, as to who does the work their asking about

SOURCE: White Smoke out my exhause,

Hello chris first thing you need to do is while the car is running go to the rear of your car have somone increase the gas pedal to get it to smoke now smell the smoke does it smell like antifreeze if it does most likely headgasket going wich means your head needs to be pulled to change the gasket if it smells like oil possible valve seals clogged oil returns this is all serviced under your valve cover if car is turbo turbo seal internal most likely ruptured and is letting oil get into the exhaust port side have your turbo checked if there is wettness around the housing areallook for exsesive oil leaking externally goodluck please rate

The MAF is in the flex hose that delivers air to the engine, it has a 5 or 6 wire connector going to it.

SOURCE: Pulled Codes Volvo 1995 850 Need Help

I would lean toward the MAF sensor they were known for going bad, which would cause all these codes. It wouldn't hurt to take the IAC off and spray it out with carb cleaner and some WD40, just to cover your bases. Both these units were made by Bosch and the MAF failed alot more often then the IAC.

SOURCE: I have a 1991 Buick Park Avenue. Runs rough in

Here are the common cause of surges, cold stalls, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours.
To correct this problem I want you to get a can of intake cleaner (ABOUT $5.00) from any local auto parts store like NAPA or Carquest, do not use carburetor spray, intake cleaner only or u will damage the Teflon coating inside the throttle valve and air bypass valve, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

Testimonial: "Thank you, I'm sure if your advice it was I'm looking for. But at least if this works, it will save me a lot money from having to replace expensive sensors."

I have a 2003 Jeep Liberty Sport 3.7 engine. giving a code of P1299, say high air flow. which sensor is this?

The computer logs this code when the mass airflow sensor indicates more airflow than expected. Is the engine idling high? It could be that the idle air control valve is jammed open. Or, there could be another excessive air flow path downstream of the airflow sensor. Check all hoses connected to the inlet duct between the airflow sensor and the throttle body. Are any of them connected to the intake manifold?

1999 mitsubishi montero sport. Randomly started hesitations and low rpms in gear at idle. and highway speeds dropped rpms slightly and when let off accelerater rpms drop too quick and low. Any ideas?

Engine light on? Many things can cause this. Mass airflow sensor, throttle pos. sensor, cam sensor, idle control valve, O2 sensor, vacuum leak etc, diagnosis be great. Good luck

Why does my 1997 chevy s10 have a high idle while coasting?

Sounds like a dirty air filter is putting the mass airflow sensor out of range. The throttle position sensor is subject to physical wear, the age of your truck warrants replacing it. The coolant temp sensor controls the Idle Air Solenoid which determines idle speed ( cold, high idle, 1200 rpms open loop mode for the ECU) and (hot, low idle, 800 rpms, closed loop mode for the ECU) If the truck does not have a Mass airflow sensor, check the Manifold absolute pressure sensor (MAP). Perform an OBDII scan for stored fault history to avoid buying parts you don't need. Do the cheapest fixes first. Go ahead and change the fuel filter also. There is a lot of water in todays fuels

I have 1985 jag xjs running rich.I replaced fuel injectors , fuel pressure regulator , and water temperature sensor . the car is running rich in idle black smoke coming out of exhaust and files out the...

You may not have all the things I list. these are things that will make an engine run rich. ECM, 02 sensors, map sensor, mass air flow sensor, vacuum leaks, throttle position sensor, Clogged air filter, Clogged catalitic converter. You have already replaced the injectors and the ECT , so that rules them out. Check for codes. Start with vacuum leaks. Hoses and the intake manifold gaskets. If you need more info let me know. Randy
