not easy. must be remove from inside engine area. if it has ac, system must be also removed. replace blower motor as well, being that is also hard to get to later.
I would try flushing heater core to see if it's plugged. I don't think it's waterpump, your rig would be overheating if it was. Leaking is most common waterpump failure.
well it might be you engions not heating you see the heater draws heat from the ingion but if the thermistat is stuck open then the engion will stay cold and the heater will only blow cold air
You could have an air bubble in the system. It is also possible that the heater core has debris blocking the flow of water. I would check to see that you are getting good circulation by checking the heater hoses near the firewall. If they are both getting hot then you may have an air baffle issue inside the heater box.
Disconnect both hoses from the core and one of them also from the engine. Hook the other one back to where you took one off, making a loop. The picture below is not a bronco, but gives you the idea.
By the way, your core is easy to replace. It almost pops right out from under the dash. I ahve included picture below.
Remove and replace heater core procedures:
Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core tubes and plug hoses.
In the passenger compartment, remove the five screws attaching the heater core access cover to the plenum assembly and remove the access cover.
Pull the heater core rearward and down, removing it from the plenum assembly.
To install:
Position the heater core and seal in the plenum assembly.
Install the heater core access cover to the plenum assembly and secure with five screws.
Install the heater hoses to the heater core tubes at the dash panel in the engine compartment. Do not over-tighten hose clamps.
Check the coolant level and add coolant as required. Connect the negative battery cable.
Start the engine and check the system for coolant leaks.
under the dash on the pass side there is a large black plastic box. take out the 6 screws and pull off the cover. there is a wire attached to the top that controls a flap, that just lifts off. under the hood loosen and remove the 2 host clamps right at the firewall area. Push the metal tubes in to the firewall. Then reach back in from under the dash and pull out the old core. put the new one in reverse order.
sounds like a bad heater core , your coolent may be low , check it out and add if needed . this will not fix your leak but you might get so heat untill you can check out the heater core
