Leaky valve cover on my jdm subaru

I first noticed some oily residue around my spark plug covers then after 6 months the valve cover on the left side of the engine is leaking dripping from the wheel well down to the steering rack. i need to know what else to buy for it appart from new valve cover gaskets (ie : new water pump, timing belt, new belts, sprockets and head gaskets). and how much would i be looking at?

The only thing you might need to buy beside the gasket is any rubber parts that have been damaged by the leaking oil.
Check your radiator hoses, heater hoses, and vacuum lines, because motor oil will "rot:" rubber.
You need only replace hoses that are "spongy"and are wet with oil.
Be blessed.

SOURCE: loud squealing from power steering pump - do I need new PS pump?

Hi Norman,

Sounds like the adjustment may not be correct on the power steering belt, with the tension not being enough, after you replaced the belt ?

Try giving it a little more tension, and go from there.

Hope I have been of help.

Good Luck !

John.

SOURCE: valve cover gasket leaking

When you buy the valve cover set, it will include the spark plug well "O" rings. Simply remove the valve cover and on the underside of the valve cover, you'll see the "O" rings that need replaced and you'll see exactly how the valve cover gasket itself fits.

SOURCE: Timing Belt Problem-6 cylinder Saturn wont' start

If your timing belt broke, then it is possible that the valves in your engine got bent, which won't allow the cylinders to pressurize the fuel/air mixture, and it will let all of the mix to flow freely into the intake/exhaust manifold. This can be checked with a pressure tester that is threaded into the spark plug opening. A mechanic should have one, or you can probably find one at an auto parts store.

Oil in most of my spark plug ports!

The fault is due to the valve cover gasket passing oil into the spark plug wells. There are circular seals under the valve cover around each spark plug well opening. These spark plug well seals come with the valve cover gasket set.

Where are the spark plugs in a 2litre subaru legacy 94 twin turbo?

Thru the holes in the center of the valve covers. It is a flat opposed engine so the valve covers are on the sides of the engine. Like pointing toward the front tires.

I have oil coming out of one of the spark plugs on the left side of my motor what do i do?

it is probably the grommet between the valve coner and the spark plug tube you will have to remove the plenum and the plug wires to remove the valve cover to change the grommet and should do all six and check or change the plugs esp the oily one

We have oil in the spark plug wells

Most likely you have a leaking valve cover gasket. There is a gasket the goes around the valve cover, and also a gasket where the cover mates to the head for the spark plug holes.

My 83 s-10 pickup 6 cyclinder misses going down the road, like its running low on fuel. Replaced spark plugs 2 weeks ago. The first plug on the left side has oil all over it. What is causing that or what...

If the oil is on the outside of the plug it's likely to be a leaky valve cover gasket. Oily on the tip means its not firing. Take the plug wire for the oily plug off and reinstall it on both ends, it's likely not making proper connection on one end. Also check that wire closely for swelling, cracks, burnt marks, etc. If any of that is present that could stop it from firing and a new set of wires will probably fix you up. Hope this helps.

Oily wet spark plugs on a ford ka 2001 recently had new ones fited.

Oil residue on plugs is never a good thing, usually indicating excessive ring wear or other major internal problem (read:expensive) But, first, check that any engine venting system (pcv, cover vent etc) is clear and not building crankcase pressure, then check compression or cylinder leakdown test. Also make sure that you do not have a problem in the fuel system that you are mistaking for oil on plugs.

My 1996 honda accord hestites when I give it gas at the lights, I removed the spark plug wire and noticed oil on the end of my wires, as well as a crack, would this be the reason for the rough drive?

The oil at the spark plug end of your wire is caused by O ring gasket seals that can be bought in a kit for about 20 bucks-valve cover gasket replacement kit. When you remove the valve cover, you will see one for each spark plug hole. They may be melted to the valve cover and need picked off with small screwdriver. After this remove spark plugs to get rid of residual oil. This may be shorting the spark to the engine instead of letting it go through the plug since electricity always looks for the path of least resistance(conductor).

Erratic idle and misfiring problem

when you changed the valve cover did you bump the distributor a bit? If it has a distributor mounted on the head you can loosen it and turn it to advance the timing. it may solve your problem.
