I have a 2005 Pacifica (3.5L). The car has been idling rough at times and I noticed that with the car in park (at idle), if you try and rev/race the engine it will not go above 3000 RPM. The car runs great on the road, can redline the RPM accerlating from a stop. I thought it may be the Mass Airflow Sensor, but I was informed at Autozone that this car doesn't have one. Has anyone seen this problem before?

remove the aircleaner intake hose and, check the intake air control flap for free movement
SOURCE: runs rough under 1,000 rpm
maybe timing marks were not set correctly.maybe off by 1 tooth.this will definitely make it run rough and also lose power too.might want to check timing.hope this info helps.take care and good luck, manny

These are the crankshaft/camshaft sensors tyhat directly relate to the problem, using a cheaper version hand scanner will not detect which of these are defective you need to have the system's values read out by means of a quite expensive OBDII scanner generally found in a repair shop or Dealership, the p0016 code(Cam/Crankshaft Pos. Correlation SensorA-Bank 1) you have read from the hand scanner is a good start but not for a good finish... I have one too but can't afford to have the $5,000 monster and 5k is just about where they begin in price for anything decent.
Typically the crank sensor is the common sensor to fail but it can be either/or....I don't believe your compression is at fault as you stated the engine runs fine until over 3K.
Take it to a reputable shop and pay the diagnostic time it will save you a lot in the end.

try giving it a little fuel to keep it going. if it still goes but will shakes and splutters and coughs before smoothing out it sounds like fuel is draining back from your engine to the tank. if you have an electric fuel primer pump that turns on when you turn the ignition to on you should be able to hear an electric whine unless your car either does not feature one or its not audiable/ possibly not working. leave your car at "on" for 10 seconds then try starting it as well. see if it improves
