SOURCE: BMW Cabin AIr Filters for 1997 740il

there are two more filters. they are called interior recirculation filters.
one is located under the footwell trim panels for the driver and passenger.after removing the trim panels, look inward toward the center console and follow it back to the firewall.the filter is about 3inches by 4inches. make sure not to inhale the dust from them when removing them..they will cause a sinus headache.I recommend replacing them very 2 years, especially if you use recirculation.

Sounds like it may be running a bit lean - do basic checks for air leaks in the induction system (such as leaking manifold gasket, loose hose fittings to air flow sensor etc).
Condition of HT leads also worth a check.

2001 bmw x5 3.0 fuel trim permissible range exceeded bank 1 and bank 2

You have a small air leak. The fuel trim kept increasing to compensate until it exceeded the allowable range. Change the valve cove gasket and valve cove bolt gaskets. check for leeks around intake manifold.

1997 e350 triton v 10 engine code po171

Diagnostic Test Code (DTC) P0171 is defined by SAE J2012 as "System Too Lean Bank 1".
This is what is known as a fuel trim code. Something is causing the fuel trim on bank 1 of your engine to reach a predetermined maximum set point. This can be caused by many things including vacuum leaks, malfunctioning injectors, a fauly mass airflow sensor, or even a catalytic converter that is clogged up.

If there are no fuel trim problems on the opposite bank, then there is a problem that affects only one bank. It is necessary to access the fuel trim data to correctly identify the problem. You may have fuel trim problems on the opposite bank that have not yet set a code. If the fuel trim data proves that there is no problem on the opposite bank, then this rules out several possiblities like the mass airflow sensor, as it will affect BOTH banks, not just one.

To put it simply: Proper diagnosis required.

Bmw 330ci m sport automatic 2001 makes a clinging sound when accelerating engine management light on and diagnostics says 228-e4-fuel trim bank 2- too lean. 227-e3-fuel trim bank 2- too lean its not...

Explanation:

According to my research and the BMW master mechanic, basically your oxygen sensor is getting an abnormal reading. The abnormal reading will result in the sensor being unable to adapt beyond its +/- 10% threshold to adapt for the fuel/trim mixture. Therefore, either your car is going to run too lean (not enough fuel) or too rich (too much fuel).

Problems:

1) Either your pre-cats oxygen sensors are bad.
2) Fuel pressure regulator
3) Leak in the air intake /vacuum system

I would think that it is probably your oxygen sensors. Replace that and you should be good to go. Thanks for rating my response and for using FixYa!
