Look for your drive belts on the engine, there will be a big pully at the bottem end of the engine. Look for any wires connected near that pully. That would be the crank sensor

VW A4: 2.0L Replacing Crankshaft Position Sensor / Engine Speed ..
Hi. Which speed sensor? There is one at each wheel, and these work out road speed and are the abs break speed sensors. Ther is a cam speed/position sensor at the top of the engine. There is also a crank spped sensor that picks up from the rear crank oil seal housing.
Regards, Neil
Most crank sensor on VW 4 cylinder engines is on the engine block facing the front of the car. Usually a grey connector that is connected to pigtail, right beside the oil filter housing.
P0011 - Camshaft positioning sensor P2181 - Engine cooling temperature sensor. If you have a repair manual (chilton/haynes/etc) these should be fairly simple fixes. Camshaft positioning sensor for my car was $35 and took about 15 minutes to change.
2carpros.com suggested the P2181 is also fairly easy to replace http://www.2carpros.com/questions/volkswagen-jetta-2004-volkswagen-jetta-code-p2181-engine-cooling-performance
drain below level first or all after engine is cold!!!
sensor is on engine block.
Drain by opening the drainplug under radiator.
If clean enough, refiil same with funnel later. Leave cap or radiator while draining otherwise will not run.
Any good reason to swap? Fan not running or gauge problem?
