I have a 1999 Daihatsu Charade 1500cc. It revs as per normal when cold, but when warm it osolates between 1500 and 2500 all very strange and more than a little embarasing at the lights.
Can anyone sugest how I can fix this?
Errors codes would be the logical thing to look at first. You may need to ask Toyota for the procedure in retrieving them.
Check that there aren't any obvious cracks in vacuum hoses.
Try pinching the PCV valve hose. If it stabilises you need to clean with some carby cleaner or replace.
The H series engines are prone to this and can generally be tracked to a vapour lock in the coolant hoses on the throttle body air valve (idle circuit).

this engine does not have a choke, it is fuel injected and uses fuel enrichment to cold start, this is controlled by the PCM using the ECT and IAT sensor inputs.
