MOST days, when I start the car there is a couple of minutes of [belt] squeal. Once in a while no squeal. Sometimes squeal stops after a minutes or so, and done for the day. Sometimes it will start squealing again after a few minutes, sometimes squeal off & on for 15-20 minutes.Sometimes it starts up when heater/AC fan turned on. Sometimes it starts up when I accelerate. Now Feb 13, first noticed noise in September. Haynes book/Chilton online no help. No slack in belt & in good shape. Pulleys aligned. Weather makes no difference. Does seem to be getting worse(??), but can't afford to have mechanic poke around to MAYBE fix something. Female DIYer.
Year make and model ??
The belt could be glazed and slipping even if it is tight.
You could have a weak belt tensioner too.
The noise when the ac or heat is turned on can be the extra load from the ac compressor or the alternator. The compressor cycles on and off especially in defrost mode.
The load from the alternator is the first noise of the day. As the belt warms up it becomes better at handling the load of the accessories.
Even tho the belt looks fine, you may have to replace it to get rid of the noise.

Belts stretch from new. Try to tighten them again. Hopefully the are not glazed or this may stay with you.
SOURCE: squeal which sounds like it's underneath the car.
Do you know if he turned the rotors when brakes were done?

Try spraying one item at a time with WD-40 or belt dressing. Try not to worry about doing the belt first and save it for last. Most causes of squeals are galzed belts from being too tight or the pulleys of whatever item, the bearings are going out or were improperly lubed.
This is the cheapest method to truoble shoot the annyoing noises.
Hope this helps!

I also have a 98 Frontier 2.4 litre with the same problem. On start up the the thing squeals like crazy I change all the belts and pulleys to no avail. Talked to a mechanic and he said it was probably the A/C clutch and not the belts. I'm having mine replaced this week and will post again to let you know if thats the case. good luck.

POWER STEERING PROBLEM - CONTAINER CONSIST TWO LEVELS. SHOULD THE BOTTOM PART BE THE NORMAL COLOUR OF THE FLUID AND THE TOP PART APPEARS TO BE DIFFERENT THEN REMOVE THE CONTAINER AND CLEAN PROPERLY AS THERE IS A SIEVE BETWEEN THE TWO LEVELS WHICH IS BLOCKED. DRAIN OIL FROM POWER STEERING SYSTEM AND REFILL WITH NEW OIL.
iF BELTS WERE RECENTLY CHANGED THEN THE PROBLEM MIGHT LY BY ONE OF THE PULLEYS THAT IS WARN. MEANING THAT THE BELT INBEDDS TO DEEP INTO THE PULLEY AND CAUSE THE BELT TO SQUEL. SHOULD YOU POUR WATER ONTO THE BELT WHILE IT IS SQUELING IT PROVES THAT IT IS EITHER THE BELT THAT NEEDS REPLACELMENT OR ONE OF THE PULLEY PROVIDING THE BELT TENSION IS INSPECT
