I had a 78 rabbit did the same thing. It was the fuel pump relay. The connector was under size and burnt up. When you star the car on the old Rabbit the pump runs off the ignition switch. Once it starts the relay needs a pulse from the distributor to let it know that the car is running and keep the pump running after it starts. If not the relay times out and pump stops pumping gas. Its for safety so if in a accident and the engine stops the pump wont pour out gas
Remove the air cleaner and carefully pour small amounts of gas down the carburetor. Have a fire extinguisher near by. If the motor keeps running then the engine is not getting fuel. Check the fuel pump & gas filter.
Year make and model ? The injectors will open with zero pressure.
They use a magnetic valve. You should have voltage on one side and ground on the other when they are working.
Take the gas filter off. Should be located near the front of the carbeurator, take off the air cleaner and look for it, it takes 2 wrenches to take it off, a little gas may spill out but not much and replace it, however there is a strong possibility that he gas pump is out if the filter is fine. Hope this helps
Runs on the gas you pour in, or keeps running until you turn the key off ??? If the fuel pump relay fails, you would have to crank the engine until you get oil pressure to provide power to the fuel pump. Do the injectors spray when you are cranking it ? Have you checked fuel pressure when the key is turned to start ?
the easiest way is to take off the air filter top, and have someone turn the engine over while you SLOWLY (like out of the air hole in a gas can) pour gas into the carburetor (carefully...) have them press slightly on the gas pedal. It could take a couple minutes of pouring, but It will prime the gas lines. Stop when it will run on its own
Hi!
What you can try is to cool the "camshaft rotary sensor" by pouring (normal) water (which I also did just last week) and it works to start & run the car until the next pull-over. You have to redo pouring water if you stop the endine and does not re-start. But this may be just an emergency solution wherein you have to let the car be serviced by a mechanic.
check your fuel filter, if its good then try pouring a lil bit of gas into your air intake it should help your car turn over. keep doing this until it starts without quitting out
