Correction: Code 11 means 11 no crank signal to computer. Fault in wiring between crankshaft position sensor (CPS) and ECM ( PCM or computer ) or faulty CPS. Generally, that sensor is located on the passenger side of the engine, at the very rear where the seam between the engine and transmission is located, just above the surface of the trans' differential housing. It is held in place by a single bolt.

I changed my crankshaft sensor about to weeks ago and my grand Cherokee 96 started doing this today. What's up with that?

SOURCE: 98 jeep cherokee wont start it is not getting fuel

i just had the same problem on a 1997 4.0 . crank sensor is most likely bad you can spray starting fluid in the intake tube and car will start meaning you have spark but injectors will have no power I.E. crank sensor is bad 38.00 dollars at local parts store dealer told me 170.00 dollars make sure you push it all the way in when you install it i just posted a fix for this on this site today . after you start the car if it gives a misfire code and check engine light comes on loosen the crank sensor bolt and push it in again then tighten the bolt the cardboard on the sensor for the air gap wares off a little bit enabling you to push the sensor in a little bit more misfire should be gone there is only a few thousands of an inch adjustment for the air gap and it makes a difference. hope this helps

SOURCE: intermitent starting

sometimes the ais(automatic idle speed) valve gets loaded with
carbon. its an easy fix. you have to remove the throttle body
invert it and you will see the ais chamber and look in and see if it is
built up with soot. carb cleaner should work.if you can remove
the valve for better cleaning. peterjai

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

This will be caused by a faulty distributor coil. You may want to swap the coil and observe how it goes.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Code 12 is battery having been disconnected. It sounds like you may have the firing order right but may be one tower off in the rotation. Sounds like engine timing is too far advanced. Remember, I'm not there so I can't see or hear what you can, but that's what it seems like.

I0check your ignition fuse, and check the ign. coil for spark. Pull the coil wire off and see if you have spark from the coil.

Three days ago i had to remove the intake manifold on my 1994 gmc yukon 5.7 liter had to remove throttle body and dist have replaced along with dist cap, rotor and coil the truck ran fine but now won't...

Check to make sure the coil wire is secured to the distributor cap and rotor.
Also check that the rotor is not cracked (even if new) and that the spark plugs are not loose - wires are not loose, frayed etc.
Also, make sure all connections on the battery, ground at chassi, and positive on starter are in good repair as well.
Please, let me know if you need further assistance.

Car turns over wont start..replaced rotor and cap and ignition coil..still seems not getting spark....should rotor turn without cap on when turning over

if the basics have been done check the timing, i have seen a few of these cars the camshaft breaks, quick way is just do a compression check on each cylinder, check for fuel pressure and enough spark is coming out of the coil.

1995 dodge dakota 2wd 3.9 no spark to plugs,or coil,orfuelpump

First of all let's explain how the spark gets to the plugs. There is a crankshaft position sensor and a cam sensor. They are what determines when to fire the coils and injectors. The crank sensor is located on the passenger side on top of the bellhousing, the cam sensor is the pickup plate in the distributor. As the engin turns the send refernece pulses to the computer which grounds and ungrounds the ignition coil causing it to discharge and send voltager from the secondary coil wire to the center tower in the distributor cap. The rotor button recieves the voltage and distributes it to the 6 towers (1 for each cylinder) If you say you're getting spark from the rotor that tells me the primary side of the ignition system is working, and the secondary side is working into the distributor cap. I'd check for spark out of the plug wires at the plugs. Pull a wire and insert a #2 phillips screwdriver into it, hol the shaft of the screwdriver aprox 1/8"(no more) from the exaust manifold and observe the spark as someone turns over the engine. You should see a nice blue spark. If theres spark, spray a little gum cutter in the throttle body an crank it, if it fires you have a fuel problem. Install a fuel pressure gauge on the schrader valve on the fuel rail and observe it as you crank it. If theres no fuel pressure maks sure there's fuel in the tank, if so climb underneath and beat on the bottom of the tank with a rubber hammer, the pump may be going bad, sometimes you can jar them and make them run.

Check for a bad distributor cap and or rotor..........a bad cap and or rotor can caues firing (cross fire)across the terminals and introduce spark to the wrong cylinders at the wrong time.......
