Passenger Rear Wheel Locked Up?

A few weeks ago i pulled my Emergency Brake.. Well I was trying to check the reverse lights to see if any were out. i forgot it was in reverse while my Emergency Brake was pulled. I stepped on the gas and of course it didn't go anywheres. well i took the Emergency Brake off and tried backing up and only the rear passenger wheel would not go in reverse only forward. The Emergency handle wiggles up and down about an inch to an inch and a half. well now ive tried and i pulled the Emergency Brake again to see if i could loosen it up. Well now it will not go forward nor reverse. Can somebody please help me out? :/ This is my first car and am terrified it will cost a lot of money to fix.. It could be that it was sitting in the winter. prior to me getting it it was sitting for 3 to 4 months. i drove it home and it was fine now that i did all of that its messed up.

Any Vehicle you buy that age or one that has been sitting outside in the weather can't be used until you work on it for a couple weeks & go completely thru it

All four brake will have to come apart & all rust removed
& whatever else needs to be done

That is a car for someone who does all their own work
Sort of a hobby & restoration project

Yes but I still need to know but I still need to know what may be the problem.

Your not thinking clearly I explained to you given the age of the vehicle, sitting not used for some time & normal rust etc you have a lot of disassembly & work to do No one can give you an anser to any car problem over the phone or internet You need the car to diagnose or work on Common Sense You obviously can't do your own work so you will have to pay a repair shop The car is too old in my opinion to even keep given what your saying

SOURCE: emergency brake locked after pull release handle

handbrake jammed on somewhere ,could be front cable ,because the rear cable is pulled by the compensator so if it was the rear one then i would expect only one cable siezed and that is normally the kerbside one.

SOURCE: rear wheels on 2000 super duty f250 skid in reverse only

I hate to say it but it sounds like you have a severe problem in the rear end. Here are a couple of things i would do. First pull off your tires and wheels. Of course you need to put the truck on jack stands and block the wheels for safety! Disconnect your rear drive line so you know nothing from front diff or trans could be affecting it. Next spin the brake rotors by hand and inspect them for severe damage. Go forwards and backwards. Also listen in your rear end for grinding or clunking noises and also excessive play front foward to reverse. And last drain your oil and put your finger up inside the housing as far as you can and feel for large pieces that should not be there. This should give you a good idea if it is in your braking sytem your rear end or wether you need to start looking at front diff. or the trans. If all is good on rear end do the same thing for front diff and inspect it as well. Make sure you pull front driveline off!

Testimonial: "my problem appears to be the inner brake pad which was used up and slipped out of place and would wedge itself between the housing and the hub. Thanks"

86 honda wagovan right rear wheel locked up

Not sure about the advice above...If your experiencing a rear wheel locking up, I've seen where the emergency brake cable is not releasing and is stuck. Best bet is to have someone operate the E-brake while you watch the cable underneath the car on the right side. If you don't see the cable retracting, clamp a pair of vice grips tightly onto the cable (away from where it could retract into the sheath) and tap the vice grips "away" from the wheel. This will "persuade" the cable to retract, therefore releasing the emergency brake. If that's it, don't use the emergency brake until you either lube it real well or replace it. Good luck!

Sounds like a problem with rear brakes. If this vehical has drum style brakes if the brake shoe has become disconnected in some way it will usally wedge against drum in one direction or another. You need to inspect rear brakes.

Have you used the e-brake? If so try to rotate the e-brake around they sometimes get crroded insie the housing and stay applied. You can als try to hit the back of the drum with a hammer and it may free up.

Ford F150 2004 4x4 passenger side rear wheel noises

You can try the bearings but I think if you take off the rear rotors and look at the emergency brakes you'll find the problem. You might want to ride the emergency brake a little in lieu of removing the rotors to confirm the problem. Also some wheel covers make noise-drive without them and see if it helps.

89 Toyota Camry manual, rear left wheel has locked and won't turn at all. When I try to move the wheel just slides.

If you or someone pulled hand brake, or pushed emergency brake pedal, and it occurred after, you can try rapping a few times on rear emergency cable going into backing plate, with screwdriver handle or similar, to get cable to retract enough to get it loosened off. Spray area where cable goes into sleeve with WD-40 or similar before. It may or may not work, depends on whether slack is there or not. Otherwise something has obviously gone wrong in there. Either way, you should pull that wheel apart & see what is causing it.

89 f150 4x4 right rear locked up

On older vehicles with drums brakes in the rear, the brake shoes on the inside are used for the emergency brake. However, the emergency brake only uses one pad per wheel instead of both, which is why the emergency brake does not work as well at keeping the vehicle from rolling backwards. You should check to see if the emergency brake is locked up. If that doesn't work, take the driveshaft off and try tow it forwards. If it rolls, then your transmission is not functioning properly.
