1985 Toyota Pickup -- Idles Too Fast

Hello, I'm a newbie here. Just bought my first Toyota ever, a 1985 pickup with 146K miles. The engine starts readily and pulls well. The idle is smooth, but that's the problem. The truck failed state inspection because the idle is too high. How does one adjust the idle? The engine has a two-barrel carburetor. I don't see any idle stop screw or idle mixture screws. All the vacuum hoses look good... no cracks, no breaks, nothing mysteriously disconnected or blocked off. Please advise. Daniel B. Martin Hi, I have Toyota,1990, The idle speed is too high in winter time, but not in summer time,How to deat with it? Thanks Simon

I have a 1986 toyota 4x4 pickup. It starts fine and idles good but when you step on the gas the motor acts like it is flooded. I checked the timing changed the spark plugs and the fuel filter and no change...

Had the same problem on an 87 pickup not 4x4. Check the rubber fuel line from the tank to the engine, mine was so old that when the engine tried to **** a lot of gas the rubber line collapsed and restricted the amount of gas getting to the engine.

My 89 Toyota pickup idles too fast in cold weather

I would have a look at your coolant sensor, if it's reading the wrong temperature, it will cause a idle problem. If you can, get a scanner on it to verify it's operation.

Need diagram of fuel injection for 85 4x4 22re

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak somewhere. There may be a stop adjustment on the throttle body, but usually high idles are due to unmetered air entering the system.

V6 engine idles rough after restarting, then smooths out

My first guess would be a dirty carb/fuel injector set. Run some fuel cleaner through the tank and see if it gets better. You might have to do it through a couple of tanksful. How long since you've had a tune-up? It might just be that time.

1985 Toyota Pickup 22R

When the engine is running ragged, place your hand over the opening of the carburator. If the idle smooths out, you have a vacuum leak somewhere on the intake system; it could be the base gasket for the carb, the intake manifold gasket, or a broken vacuum line, or a combination of that. What you have is too much air getting into the engine, but the air is not going thru the carb. Please check for vacuum leaks, you can use a can of carb cleaner, spray the intake manifold, if the idle smooths up, that would be a good place to start.
