since the new pads are alot thicker than the old ones,the brake needs to be set properly.
something is not right for sure.
the retainer for the park brake cable may be not in the right spot.there is two places it can fit.

There should be a manual release. Reach up along the parking brake pedal. Ford has a manual lever that you pull toward yourself to release the parking brake. Hope this helps our with your problem. Best of luck.

There is usually a float in the master cyl resivoire. It is poss low on fluid. You either have a leak, low fluid or pads worn out. The fluid will go in to the cylinders of the calipers when the pads are replaced the piston on the caliper gets pressed back in the caliper forcing the fluid back in to the master cil resivoire turning off the light. Please don't fool around with safety items on our car. Have them checked by a licensed technician.
