On short trips the car is fine (city driving), but when I am driving 70-100km/h and the engine seems to heat up a bit the tacho starts going up and down and the speed drops and the engine starts to buck like a bronco. Once stalled it wont start for five minutes. The car is a 2001, aerio with a M15A engine, mechanic changed a sensor on the top part of the engine because the computer diognostic said it was faulty!. but notihng changed. THEN ANOTHER MECANIC METIONED THAT IT MAYBE THE-DRIVE SHAFT SENSOR!!!everytime the car stalls I pour water straght on the sensor then start the engine and off I go till it heats up again. Apparently it's a common problem with these engines, IS IT TRUE ,HOW MUCH WILL THIS COST TO FIX ,ETC.
Frank nails it.
we are in USA< but not you, so why ask Yankees prices
costs are not known, ever., only problems and solutions
hows labor and parts you buy is not or concern, that is your job.
we are just a BS chat forum here.
car BUCKS is misfiring engine.
you never scanned it and reported DTC,s so why explect
brilliant answers.>? or sage advice.
the M15s not sold here, are not know to failure.
only poor service, tops the ranks where. lack of.
ever get a full tuneup on this 2001 , 16 year old engine
spark parts, all, filters all.????????
what is miles on it, does it get regular oil changes,or run it for 50km on old oil?
what are miles on engine, ????? (KM)
The way to get car fixed is find a real mechanic
you dont have ASE shops so, cant advice. you.
if it was showing DTC error and he didn't fix it , FIRE HIM.
if it's intermittent and it did not fail before his eyes,
get him to drive it and scan it. so he can see it fail and why.
there is no other ways.
unless you buy a scan tool and scan it , an post errors
1: get a compression test yet?
2: do a full tune up yet.
3: check spark on a scope yet.
4: bad CMP or CKP sensors.
5: bad coil packs or just boots on COPS.
6: bad COPS.
7: bad wiring to most of the EFI system. even power loss.
find a real shop.
learn that all cars fail eventually, all do , every single one
and all must be repaired,.
called Entropy,
last this:
tacho starts going up and down
that tells me 2 things.
ECU lost 12vdc power,
or ECU cant keep RPM updated and sent to cluster.
means sensor bad CMP or CKP. TOPS my list
but can be wires bad to same, as Frank says,
just because the TDC said, (say) CKP bad, it can be good.
it can be "WIRES" bad. no sensor on earth runs on bad wiring. of any kind. or bad insulatation or pin corrosion,.
keep in mine this one fact next.
the sensors run off a power wire.
if the wire shorts to ground all sensors go dead at once.
one classic case is O2 sensor wires melted against hot exhuast pipes. shorts out power, BAM the EFI world ENDS>
stop doing this do not put water on or in any engine, stop !!!!
"everytime the car stalls I pour water straght on the sensor then start the engine and off I go till it heats up again."
Myself, certified ASE auto tech, would start by scanning the computer & get the sensor READINGS. Bad readings don't mean the sensor is NG, it can possibly be an electrical problem too. For the problem u are describing it can be a result of a crank or cam sensor. Its very possible. Just make sure u get a warrantee by a repair. PS the crank & cam sensors are common causes for this problem. I warrantee all my repairs. Sorry, that's the best I can do from here. Good Luck

Same problem for me. The car would idle at about 2500 when started from cold and about 3 miles on would not idle at all, resulting in the revs dropping off when changing gear or stopping. Also rather jerky in top gear unless thrashed - numerous trips to the garage for air idle valve, injectors etc. but still a problem! Have just found out that GVs are a bit prone to carbon build up in the throttle body - mine was almost blocked - it now feels like a different car.

lay down in front of your car facing up under the front bumper, you will see 2 screws or knots left and right of the plate number plastic holder
