My 94 Subaru Impreza L drops rpms on acceleration and plugs foul.Been to 2 diagnostic centers. Replaced oxygen sensor and the thermostat sensor. Got worse. Used to run well when cold and now its worse.
If your car has coil packs it is most likly them. Some Impreza cars especially the Turbo versions have individual coils built into the lead at the plug end. If your car has these then they crack down the side . If you take them out you can see a fine crack in the plastic. You cannot fix them, they have to be replaced. Check to see if you have them, it might help.

Thank you for the reply. The problem started when my son took the positive battery cable off 1st then the negative in order to install a stereo system. The car will run well until it warms up and then begins to stall and sputter, apparently it is running too rich. Replaced the oxygen sensor, spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter and brain. Had the ignition coil cleaned ran better and then the problem started all over again and everytime it goes out on a test run the plugs have to be cleaned or replaced again. The local mechanics don't seem to know about Subarus and also the codes run off and on again. Thank you so much for your advice. Will see about fixing the secondary voltage on the coil pack.
Check your secondary voltage on your coil pack. Do you know how to do this?
