2004 Dodge Intrepid knocks

The engine knocks at startup and when the gas is pressed. However, when i lift my foot off the gas and the car coasts the knocking is not there. The only time i've had real trouble with the car is at sub zero tempetures and the car doesn't either want to start or stay started when it does finally turn over. Oil is changed regularly.

Bad crankshaft bearing and, weak battery;
when you accelerate the increased load on the piston makes the bearing knock; when you lift your foot there is less load on the piston and, bearing so the engine does not knock,

Engine,? Oil being currently used ? Mileage/km. Has oil pressure been checked, or do you have a gauge for oil pressure?

The knock sensor is threaded into the block of the engine, just below where the cylinder head sits. You will need to remove the intake plenum (upper and lower) to access this part.

If it's doesn't sound like it's your engine which i am thinking not. Check to see if there any heat shield that may have come lose, like the heat shield to the spark plug wire or heat sheild along the down pipe.
Good luck and hope this was the rattling your taking about as it heats up it expands and tighten's up.

sounds like you have a bad connection to the oil pressure sending unit or the sending unit itself is bad. look for a loose connection and if it's ok just replace the sending unit.

2004 Dodge Intrepid Check Engine Light & Bad Fuel Mileage

If it has never had plugs changed, i would suggest it. It can make a big difference.

Labor time is .8 hrs + 6 plugs = $80 - $150.

Take your car to a parts place and they will usually check and clear your light for free.

Firestone likes to up-sell everything, $650 is way too much for a basic tune up.

Engine shakes, check engine light is on and car hesitates

If the check engine light is on, take the car to an autoparts store and have them use a scan tool to retrieve any fault code(s) that are stored in the computer. Most parts stores offer this service at no charge and the code(s) will help narrow down the problem. (i.e. bad throttle position sensor, etc.) Sure hope this helps you find a resolution to your problem. Best wishes.

I have the same problem in 95 intrepid

does it clunk when you accelerate only ? if so you need new engine mounts. To make sure, open your hood and observe the engine movement when pressing the gas pedal while in drive(other foot on the brake of course )
