How hard is it to replace a shifter cable in a 1998 chevy suburban checked it and both ends are still attached so it broke somewhere in the middle????
Ok, Disconnect it from the Tranny First. This will make it easier to Fish Through. Connect the New Cable on the Tranny. Follow where the Old one Goes with the New one, Removing the Old one as you go. It will enter the Cab and work it's way up to the Sterring Column. You will Need to remove the Dash Panel to Access the Cable on the Shifter, It just Pulls Loose. You are at the Hardest Part of this at this Point. Let me know if you cannot access the Shifter From this Point. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!
My 1996 chevy suburban will not shift back into park. have to start vehicle in nuetral. the truck drives like normal. please help!
I have the problem of my truck not going into park. After looking underneath, I realized the plastic casing around the shifting cable may be cracked where it connects to the metal bracket. I wonder if I still have to replace the whole cable, or can I just replace the casing. For mookonski, I could only start it in neutral also, until I found this problem. If I get under the truck and flip the gear forward into park (seems easy to flip, just like a switch with the cable loose) everything runs fine until I stop again, then have to go down under to switch it back to park again, so it is just sitting now till I can get it fixed.

Shifter cables are easy to replace you just need to make sure that you are doing it correctly so do one end at a time. It sounds to me like it got really tight and snapped
