ROugh idle
there are 2 things that usually cause this, one is a dirty intake idle control valve and the other is hard engine mounts, I would say that both most likely apply to your car. try cleaning the intake with the following procedure from Ford.
Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle rough idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve (IAC for short), they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
will check fuel filter and pump
Thanks for all the responses ! Problem was sensor for coolant and the egt valve was carboned up , replaced sensor ,cleaned valve adn replaced fuel filter while I was at it . While replacing sensor found serpentine belt was on it's last legs and replaced it also . Next project is plug wires , dist cap and rotor and plugs .
check the fuel pressure
2009 Sonata diesel 72k at idle in drive with hand break on engine will surge, same problem with light throttle opening, misfire. Problems has occured before at around every 20ks. Hyundia agent has fixed before but here we go again. A few times the engine warning light has come on but gone off again.
1998 1.8 corolla no other problems than surging at 80 klm per hour, engine 245000klm good condition
When driving in od, and power is needed, shakes and stutters until its kicked down or bogs down enough. Code is cyl 1 misfire. Had cracked ceramic in spark plug, changed but didn't help.
rpm changes by 500 when stopped
