Cutting-out problem Periodically, my land rover which is powered by LPG, after running for several miles cuts out when coming to a stop. I can re-start the engine after a while but it may repeat this a few times and then go for weeks without a problem. I have recently had a new alternator and camshaft and rods fitted. I would be pleased if you could offer any explantations for this and look forward to hearing from you.

Sounds to me like the car is not switching back to it's normal fuel ( petrol or diesel ) as you come to a stop, i think you need to consult a LPG specialist to get your answer. Sorry i can't be any more of a help than that

I had a 1996 TD Disco with a similar problem, in that it intermittently cut out whilst running. LR dealer was useless (no suprise there), but I traced it back to faulty wiring leading to the fuel cut off solenoid. Its a simple bypass to make the solenoid work (take a wire off the positive - best ask a garage, if you don't feel safe doing it yourself).

A lot of places will change the solenoid ("assuming its faulty"), but my local friendly AA patrol neighbour mentioned that the wire fails more often, and thats much cheaper to check first.

Why is my LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER 4.0SE AUTO PETROL/ LPG GAS

Because a previous owner (or the dealer) wanted the lower cost of running on LPG using a dual fuel system so petrol (gasoline) could be used too. If the work was done professionally it provides the best of both but the downside is the reduction of usable space in the load space. You will find more about this in the "articles" page at http://www.graemecooper.com.au

Rpm 30 mph

IF you are on lpg then check that the gas regulator for icing up and stopping the liquid LPG from turning to gas. If it cuts out on petrol check that there is not a problem with the petrol shut off solenoid . Check the LPG cut off solenoid . I suspect a loose connection or wires to either or both or faulty units

Landrover discovery cuts out on lpg

Dear Charlee1961,

Have you had your system completely checked, made sure that all relevant gas pressure is within normal range, and that the engine has correctly been timed and adjusted in order to compensate for the new fuel?

Have all of the plumbing, the guages and the fuel management and delivery system double checked too. I will need to know if the engine is cutting out on idle, or when you are switching the engine over to use LPG. Will also need to know what conventional fuel this vehicle was using.

I hope to hear from you in the near future, but I hope my simple checks do work things out for you.

Yours sincerely

Ouszen
