No power at highway speed and takes fore ever to get to 55. Not even enough power to stay at 55 in 5th gear. Runs beautifull otherwise. It has about 78000 miles on it and it used to be fine, alot more power than it does now.
Re: No power at highway speed and takes fore ever to get...
The two most common reasons for lack of power if all cylinders are firing, is a restriction in the exhaust, or low fuel pressure. Have you checked either one ?
No, I have not checked the fule pressure, but I think it is that one or both are cloigged. its the solonoids on the solonoid block, 3 of them are sticking, there is alot of videos on what to do,on you tube, very common problem, mine runs and shifts great now
You're 5th gear syncro has just gone out. It keeps your shift forks and slider gear from popping off. It also makes it possible to shift the gear in. It's going to take a rebuild of the transmission to fix this problem.
Either you have a worn shift fork and fifth is not fully engaging or the synchro for that gear is worn Both are internal and if fork is worn I suggest you have synchro replaced as well..
Sounds like itr is not getting enough fuel. Try or check the fuel filter for dirt or water, and also check the fuel pump pressure to see if it meet factory specs.

How long have you had the F-150? Has it always seemed to be short on power, or is this something new? I suspect it's the engine (need for 2 more cylinders!) I have a 90 F-250, 5.8 V-8, and I think it's lacking power if I tow or put anything in the bed. Fine when it's empty! 5th gear sounds normal, it's really only meant for cruising on the highway, and flat at that. Maybe we should compare gas bills, you might like that 6 cyl a little more. countrycurt0
