Need to replace the shifter cable on a 2003 PT Cruiser

Have the EXACT same problem. 2005 Pt Cruiser w about 88,000 miles. Became hard to shift when cold and then bam ....something broke. Moves freely. I know I'm going to get screwed on this... what should it cost to have it fixed. The guy at a shop close by (figured close to make towing easier) started into this 'its a dealer only part and blah blah...at least an hour .... " He's going to send an estimate tomorrow. I'm in E. metro Atlanta

I got mine fixed. Had to change the cable and the whole shifter assembly. It wasnt too bad in price, less then $200 total, and my son-in-law changed it in about 1/2 hr in the driveway. Just go to the dealer and get the parts break down for that area and get the cable and chances are, you will need the assembly too.

Have same problem!!! with 2003 PT Cruiser-- wife's car stuck in garage at work--- has been an occasional problem since purchased new -- took off cowling -- park interlock cable [ drivers side] lacks tension to pull pin so it will clear and engage the shifter cable-- sprayed pin with WD40-- released after some moving of interlock cable-- will avoid Park and leave in Neutral with key in -- and check on new interlock cable!!! Happened to my daughters Cruiser. Was the E-Clip on the linkage under the shifter. Fixed it with a .50 clip
