Broken plastic piece required for door to completely close

In most cases, the cars computer system needs to be reset. That requires a special computer only available at the Ford dealership.

Lift the door handle as if you were opening it

Hold the handle & use a round phillips to hook
& rotate the white door latch to the open position

Take a flat head screw driver and with some effort move that little white piece to the left or right. Give it a little spray with some wd40 or some sort of penitrating oil. If you have trouble moving this piece with the screwdriver try lifting the door handle while you pry at the piece

Check the switch in the door-jam. Little black plunger that pushes against door when closed, you'll probably find your driver doors switch is stuck in/or broken.

Spray the rollers and pathway with WD-40. This lubricates the door rollers and also cleans the rollers and pathway which the rollers travel back and forth. The door upon any resistance opens protecting the occupants from being hurt in the doorway. This worked on my 2003 Windstar.

under the carpet installed on the tailgate door, there is a hole. put a screw driver in it and manually flip the latch open, to start.
yjen take the door panel off, one screw with the interiro handle, and pull the rest off,
watch the auto release slidw side to side, you will find a broken piece here, I made an extension piece with a plastic hook and screw, works fine for over a year, lube all latch parts with wd 30 once opened.

My Buick does the same thing if a door or thr trunk lid are not completely closed. They look like they are but upon opening them and slamming them shut the problem stops. Possibly there is some play in one of them. I would say try to see if there is any play in the doors. I would get in and close the doors then try to push on them and see if one if them moves. if it does that is probably the culprit. It may need to be adjusted to close tightly.

I just went thru this on my 2002. The silver handle is actually plastic (I didn't previosly realize this) and had broken in such a way that it no longer applied leverage to the door mechanism. Everything still worked fine from the outside.
I got a new handle from the dealer (is one complete piece) for about $70. and took the door apart (much more difficult than it sounds).3 or 4 screws across the bottom - 2 in the flip up portion of door handhold and 1 straight behind the handle itself. Lots of plastic pop locks holding door in place - need to be pulled straight out vice normal slide up - proceed slow - very easy to break plastic pieces. Replacing handle requires you to drill out three rivets and replace them for holding new door handle in place.
Can do in about 1 hr with help and all the necessary tools - flat pry bar, screwdrivers, cordless drill, etc.

My window has dropped down on the drivers side and I can hear the motor working but the window is down in the door panel and won't come up. How do I get the door panel off to see if the window can be placed back on track. I see 1 screw only and after unscrewing it panel is still firmly attached. Please help . I need to know how to get this door panel off.
