If you have a 4.3 or 5.7 Litre engine (Silverado Classic Body Style), it is mounted on the back of the intake manifold in a brass fitting just under where the fuel lines come up from the transmission bell housing. Jun 4, 2013
I would highly recommend investing in a Haynes Manual if your truck is that old. It is threaded into the engine block near where the transmission is bolted below the oil sending unit. You have to remove the distributor and the oil sending unit to get to it. MARK THE ***DISTRIBUTOR AND THE ENGINE BLOCK*** WITH A MARKER OR WHITE OUT SO YOU KNOW EXACTLY HOW TO ALIGN THE DISTRIBUTOR WHEN IT GOES BACK IN!!!
you are on the right track, the first thing would be the sending unit, thats the most common reason for this type of problem, the oil sending unit is located on the top rear of the engine , heres a diagram picture to help you this is of a 6.6 engine as there are 5 engines that come in the truck but all have the oil sensor in the same location, have a good day and hope this helps.
The oil sending unit is located on the engine block behind the drivers cylinder head area. You have to climb up on the motor to see it cause it is hard to see behind the wiring harness. You may also want to purchase a new sending unit because it is very long and you might need to buy the sending unit socket to replace it.Hope this helps.Good luck.
