89 bmw 735 il self leveling rear suspension is jacked up high

Rear suspension is pumped up all the way will eventuly go down when not running however when driving pumps back up?

Hi,i own a bmw 750i,and went over a hump back bridge to fast and left the ground a bit.since then the rear suspension is jacked right up high permanently and makes a screeching sound like gas is escaping...any ideas??

    The way BMW determines ride height is a link to the rear anti-sway bar. The link broke on the hump back bridge

Sounds like their is an air leak in the bags that keep it up. But not enough of one that it will not stay up while driving. Try replaceing them and this shoild fix ya.

    Charlie: The system they use on BMW's is hydraulic. The power steering pump provides the pressure that, through a pressure accumulator, pumps up the rear of the car. There are NO air bags.

    i own a 1990 bmw 735il rear is jacked up high after friend lifted my car to change oil pan.he broke my end link too

    There is a 3" long link that connects the rear anti-sway bar to a ride height sensor. The ball and socket joint on that link has failed.

Hi,
Please check that the battery is not run down. I suggest you replacing with a dry cell battery just in case it isn't. Check the fuel level and Next you need to check that the carbon brushes of your ignition are ok. Don't kickstart for too long because it runs down the battery too. You need to consider when last it was serviced....

Try jacking up the vehicle and putting it on jack stands letting the suspension hang down. Disconnect the battery for a few minuts and reconnect it and it should inflate the airbags and level off the suspension.

I am the owner of a BMW X5 3.0i (2002. rear suspension does not go up while the front is ok please help
i am assuming this X5 has the self leveling rear suspension, but not the front, right? can you hear the pump in the rear coming on?

pump is locatred under the spare tire. remove the rear deck floot & spare tire and you will see the pump in the center.

check to see if any hoses are pinched first. have someone start the car while you are in the back to see if you can hear/feel the pump running. if the pump is running, then a hose is definately pinched or disconnected.

if the pump is not coming of, then check the wiring at the pump and the fuse. if power is present at the pump, then pump may have finally failed.

Need to know what kind of power steering fluid to use?
Your car, being a 735 iL (the iL being the key here) requires what is called Pentosin 7.1. This is a mineral based hydraulic fluid used in BMW's with self leveling suspension. Since your car is an iL you have self leveling suspension. Not a lot of parts stores carry this fluid. NAPA has it, if it's not on the shelf they can order it. BMW dealers also stock it. The same pump that runs your self leveling also runs your power stearing and they are filled in the same location as they share a common resivoir. This resivoir is located in the engine compartment on the driver's side and looks like a black bottle with a screw type cap.

89 BMW 735 il wont start
The cause of the display reading E sometimes and S sometimes is a defective transmission module, or getriebesteuerung in German. This module is located in the passenger side kick panel. To replace the module you will have to remove that panel then loosen the 4 10mm bolt which hold the module in place. There is a large set or wires going to this module and it is not simple to remove at first, it takes some twisting and shouting. Make sure your battery is disconnected when you do this and make sure to replace it with a module that has the same part number on it, If you have any more questions I'd be glad to help.

Rear suspension leveling sensor
your leveling sensor will be on the rear suspension it will hook to one of thwe control arms.
you can un hook the arm and push it all the way down and should let air out
