Adjust wiper arm

You should be able to unbolt the arm and physically move it on the post. See if there is a cover over the post and a nut underneath.

Windshield wipers keep hitting each other. Driver side wont go all the way up. I replaced the Wiper transmission assy. but that did not fix the problem. Motor spins all the way around.

So why was the trans replaced the first time. The arm on the motor is supposed to go around. If the wiper arms are installed correctly, all should be OK. Is there any slop in the linkage?

I assume it is out of warranty. Find a similar vehicle in a parking or used car lot and take a picture of its wipers assuming they are in the rest/off position. Then making sure your wiper switch is in the off position, remove the little caps at the base of the arms. Remove the nuts and gently lift the arms up and away from the vehicle, some rocking motion may be needed but do not pry on the glass. Spray some lithium grease on the little stub. Put the wiper arms back on as your picture shows them to be and snug down the nuts.

I am assuming there that someone pulled the arms off and put them back on wrong. If this does not fix the problem what you have there is that someone replaced the wiper motor and did not put the wiper transmission in the stop or rest position when he installed the new motor. So then you are going to have to get the wiper transmission out of the vehicle which could be a dealer task. You can get a repair manual on ebay or search on www.youtube.com for someone's video of this process. Some can be done by owners, some require shops. If your blades are slapping around loose, perhaps the splines or serrations in the base of the arm are stripped and some replacement arms from a junkyard are in order. Take your old arms to the junkyard so they can find exact replacements and make sure they do not sell you another stripped set. This is generally caused by turning the wipers on while they are ice glued to the glass.

Yes you can adjust them yourself. First you need to check that the wiper arms are not bent. If not, remove the cap at the wiper arm base, under it u will find a nut, remove this nut. you should now be able to remove the wiper arm. (it is comon for caravan wiper arms to be corroded on. If the arm dosen't come off, you may need to heat up the wiper arm with a propane torch. be careful not to melt the plastic cowel under the arm. OR you can use a wiper puller or a battery puller. do not force it, you can break the arm, DO NOT PRY AGAINST THE COWEL OR WINDSHIELD.
Once both arms are off, turn your van on and turn the wipers on. watch the wiper posts, turn the wipers off and watch the wiper posts return and stop in the "parked" position. Turn the van off. Install the passanger wiper arm first, it is positioned closest to the bottom an inch or two above the black cowel. It should be parrallel to the cowel. next install the drivers side wiper arm. it is positioned about 4 inches above the passanger wiper. again running parrallel to the cowel and passanger wiper. tighten the lock nuts down (do not over tighten) wet down your windshield with glass cleaner or windshield washer fluid and test wipers. If they still hit you can lower the passanger one a little or raise the drivers one a little (careful you don't raise the drivers one too much or it will 'jump' off the windshield at the top of the wipe).

Wipers land in wrong position

I had the exact same problem with my 2000 buick century which i also bought used and after asking GM what it could possibly be they told me it was the whole wiper arm assembly which would be over $700 to replace. I decided to have a look myself and discovered that a small metal tab which makes the wipers park was bent and the mechanism was not engaging after turning the wipers off. i simply bent the tab back carefully and they parked again, saving me hundreds and it took about 15 minutes.

Open the hood and look where the wiper arms attach to the spindle. remove the caps covering the nuts, then remove the nuts. the hardest part here is most likely going to be getting those arms off. then remove the plastic grille under the right wiper arm (driver's side).

When you can get at the motor assembly, turn the wipers on and off and watch how it assembly operates and see if you can find the tab. This is the best picture i could find with google.

Once i found the tab i took a large flat head screwdriver and tapped it gently with a hammer to bend the tab back. you can tell when you turn the wipers on and off that they park properly. When it came time to put the wiper arms back onto the spindles i set them where they would be when turned off (resting in the plastic cradle at the lowest position).

Wont stay tight wiper arm

The wiper arm has teeth on it that hold it the spindle, those teeth wear out and let the wiper arm flop all over. You need a new wiper arm, if it is under warranty I'd take it in, if not changing awiper arm is easy. I've seen this on several kias, and also on other foriegn cars. It is just a bad design in my opinion.

Drivers side wiper quit proper function. Driver side wiper only moves a few inches. Motor probably needs replacement. 99 chevy silverado p/u

some wiper arms fit over a splined pivot post. When you tighten the nut down, the splines cut into the wiper arm thus holding it tight and keeping it from slipping on the post.
You may just need to tighten the wiper arm down r replace the wiper arm. Does it have a cover that you can rotae up and expse the nut?

Windshield wiper arms

The wiper blades might be the wrong size (too long). Or the arms might have to be removed and repositioned so they line up in the right spot at each end of their travel. If the wipers look like they're flopping about or going at different speeds right from left, then the linkage is broken and you'll need to buy a good used linkage from a wrecker.

Wipers ARE NOT "DIFFERENT SIZES" in Fact they are Usually the same I have A 97 Caravan And BOTH Sides are SAME SIZE. They Must OVERLAP Each Other As to Cover Glass Completely. If your Wipers are Same As 1997 the Direction they Turn is the SAME as in (#1) FROM Left to right. (#2) Some However Go In OPPOSITE Direction SUCH AS BOTH START FROM CENTER and Travel OUTWARD Right Side Wiper going out to from center at Start and Right Direction LEFT SIDE Starts at CENTER and Travels to the LEFT. All of THAT BEING SAID SEEMS TO ME that Yours are ( #2) TYPE and When you Installed the Wiper ARM You May Have not Installed it in the EXACT POSITION as the One you Removed, They Must Be Timed. ,
The BEST WAY Is In There "PARKED" POSITION" That's when you turn them off and they seem to AUTOMATICALLY Drop Down LOW on Windshield. This is Usually When you can Time them Correctly it May take A Few Try's to Catch them Just right. JUST REMOVE the One you Replaced and Put it Back on in Slightly in Different Position . Hey, most cars have different lengths. The drivers side is usually the longer or the two, even if the car was meant to have two 28" you can get shorter ones, they will work just fine, just be sure they are as long a possible with out them hitting or going over the window.

That van takes 27" blades but you may actually need to reposition the arms back to where they should be. sometimes they get off enough to hit each other from snow or ice .. to check if they are in right place turn off wipers.. look how they lay on the glass both blades should lay horizontal.. if one is to high flip open the black cover at the base of the arm... you will see a 15mm nut under it.. loosten it enough to reposition the arm properly.. then retighten it and push the cover back down and retry the wipers

28" is the correct size, the only thing that can cause this is the wiper arms are not positioned properly, did u have them off? the other problem that will cause this is the transmission that moves the blades is loose or has worn parts.
