Toyota corolla professional aerial problem, reception on radio

My radio in my car does not get/pick up a good reception and the radio signal is lost most of the time. My Vehicle is a Toyota Corolla Professional 2007 model, the vehicle has a very low signal whilst driving. The problem is not with the area I live as my other vehicle is also a Toyota, picks up signal very well. My vehicle has a armor plate tint on the glass and the rear lite(back windscreen) as well where the aerial is situated, not sure if this is the cause of the problem. Please help.

Some tints have metal in them so it might cause you grief but how is the radio when you wind down the windows ?
A power aerial might fix the problem put in the front fender and then run to the radio via a coaxial cable.
However in my car it was the radio that was the cause of the same bad reception and it worked on one channel only.
I have since replaced the radio but this may not be the cause of your problem and you would want to really know if the radio was the cause before incurring an expense of a new car radio.

Good advice from Ray but I recommend you check the aerial ground at the lead end - this also checks the cable, check also for continuity between the mast and the aerial plug centre.

If a signal preamplifier is fitted, which is often the case when a short antenna or window antenna is fitted, the antenna lead will connect to the preamp and similar check will have to be performed on the screened lead from the preamp to the radio. Check also the supply and ground to the preamp if fitted.

It is also important the radio has a reliable ground so it isn't trying to draw current down the antenna or aerial ground. Sometimes in order to keep the signal-to-noise ratio to a minimum, it is necessary to fit a braided ground strap to the case of the radio.

Poor radio reception on a Santa Fe that has the aerial as part of the near side rear window, is there a mod to improve reception.

if you live in a weak reception area the only answer is a signal booster or a new aerial on the roof.

My Audi A4 1.8T saloon has lost aerial reception and every station is unlistenable, my aerial is built into the back window, any idea what the problem could be? Thanks, Jim.

It is probably the stereo.. It could be that the pre-amp (which is a small amplifier on the signal coming in from the antenia) has failed.. With out the pre-amp working the reception will be very poor..

Good luck..
