Hi, I have a Chev Metro 2000 Automatic that I am trying to pass the Calif Smog test. It passed to emission Test. It failed for (OBO Code)P0705 Trans Range Sensor Malfunction (PRNDL Input). The Service...

There is a diagnostic route on the PO705 code, which involves hooking up a scan tool, and verifying sensor functions. It can also involve checking continuity of the circuit, and PCM commands. The majority of the time, replacing the sensor in question resolves the problem, but after replacement, the sensor needs adjusting to be correctly aligned,to give the correct reading in each gear range. If replacing the sensor does not repair the problem, then it's down to checking the wires involved in the circuit for continuity. If the wires check out OK,then it's going to be checking the PCM (computer) for proper commands and outputs.Resolving the code will likely repair the problem you are having getting the vehicle out of Park. The "stuck in Park" problem has to do with the shift interlock, where you have to press the brake pedal down to disengage the shifter. It is possible you have two separate problems, but repair the PO705 code first, and see what happens with the interlock problem. The PO705 HAS to be repaired to pass inspection anyways.I guess i didnt explain, but the PRNDL switch is the sensor that tells the vehicle computer (PCM) which gear the trans is in..Park,Reverse,Neutral,Drive,Low (PRNDL).Good luck.

2003 honda accord alarm problem

Check Brake pedal sensor (contact behind pedal), this part tends to break on alot of Hondas it will apear broken most likely. If that's not the issue you could try to check or pull fuses that are associated with the alarm (check owners manual). To overide the shifter there is a small tab next to the shifter itself pop this up with a screwdriver and then depress the tab underneath, while depressing the tab shift the vehicle out of gear. You may ask why the brake pedal sensor? When you change your car into gear from park you have to depress the brake pedal, when you depress the brake pedal the sensor becomed engaged and sends a signal to the cpu which sends a signal to a sensor by your shifter and unlocks it. If the brake pedal sensor is broken or faulty it will not engage properly and there will be no signal sent.
