You need to check if the fuel pump (in the gas tank) is still turning on to put gas up to the engine. It's been known to happen that running out of gas can burn out the fuel pump. Manufacturers put the pump in the tank so the surrounding gas will keep the pump running cool.
I doubt it. Usually the problem is a blockage in the fill tube, sometimes the vent for the tank is not working. But there are several components to the EVAP system. I would check the filler tube first.
the most simplest things can drive a car owner mad check to see if you are getting gas pull gas cap off and have someone turn the key to on without starting some fuel pumps are loud enough you can most likely here it yourself listen for a brief humming sound that last only a few seconds that sound would be coming from your tank if you don't here it check your fuse for fuel system. if there good most likely you got a dead fuel pump and that is located in the tank
IF you replaced a pump in the tank it's possible that the sending unit did not get put back properly which is why the gauge is not working. This could be a clue that the pickup line in the tank isn't seated properly either. You probably got a start from the fuel still in the line but now need to try cranking it a bit to pull fuel through. If that doesn't work after a few minutes try checking the items I mentioned above.
I am having the same problem. When turning the pump on full speed it will pump for a few seconds before kicking the pump off like the tank is full even though there is no gas in the tank. I can pump gas if I barely start the pump and hold it by hand but very very slowly so it takes about 20 minutes to fill up. Its not the gas station or the way I am holding the nozzle as I have stopped 20 different places and tried every way imaginable to hold the nozzle. I have changed the filler neck, charcoal canister, and the sensor/filter that is on the side of it that I believe opens to allow fuel vapor to escape and let pressure off the tank when the truck is not running... still no luck. When I had the fuel next off there is a check valve that is made into the top next part of the tank that is spring loaded. I figured this was to keep gas from running back out in the event of a rollover and possibly keep someone from putting a hose down the next and stealing gas. At this point that is the only thing that could possibly be causing the pump to contiune to kick off every few seconds when filling up the tank. Next is to change the tank I suppose unless someone has already ran into this issue and can tell me what I need to do to fix the problem.
yea most american made cars have the fuel pump in the tank.....just drop the tank and replace....not that hard to do but you will need a helping hand...not something id attempt on my own......did you check the fuel pump relay and fuse.....that could be i too....try that first its cheaper....hope this helps :)
