Clutch pedal wont return

Started having problems changing gear on a short journey, by the time I got to my destination (just) the clutch pedal wasn't returning from the floor and I couldn't select a single gear (apart from reverse which grinded into gear). Any thoughts on what might have gone wrong? Cheers

SOURCE: tdi clutch pedal pushed all the way down but hard to shift gears

Check your clutch fluid level, sometimes a seperate reservoir (drivers side on firewall), some clutch systems take fluid from the brake system (check brake fluid). If thats ok then the clutch slave may be failing.
If the clutch fluid is low refill it and check for leaks (or just wait till the symptom comes back). If it's happens often then theres a leak in the line or the slave somewhere.

SOURCE: Reverse gear has grinding noise...?

Have them flush the fluid out under warranty and put in new fluid, and have them bleed the clutch lines in case air is getting in there. Audi and VW claim lifetime transmission fluid but it's BS - I've changed relatively low mile fluid from these cars and it was horrendous. It's possible that the fluid itself is causing trouble, but it's more likely that it is a synchro problem. If it was a clutch issue, you should have problems with more than just reverse gear - a clutch simply engages and disengages the engine and transmission, regardless of which gear it is. The problem (if not fixed by fluid) is in the transmission, and being under warranty, don't accept another "suggestion" like they're giving you. Changing your clutch isn't gonna do it.

SOURCE: hard to change gear

sounds like your slave cylinder for your clutch is by-passing.

SOURCE: 1996 jetta trekk no reverse

Sounds like you'll need a new reverse gear set. Not really an easy fix you have to remove and open the transmission. If you have too much metal in the oil you might need a new transmission seeing it probally already damaged much more like other syncros or bearings inside.

SOURCE: The clutch pedal on my passat stayed close to floor

sounds like a problem with the hydraulic clutch, either the master or slave cylinder was bypassing fluid and causing the low pedal.

Haveing problems with getting in gear, had new clutch, and fly wheel

You didn't say how long ago the clutch and flywheel was fitted.

If it was recent the car should be returned to the repair shop for some free-of-charge rectication.

If the clutch is cable operated it might need adjusting or if the adjustment is automatic, perhaps it is broken.
If the clutch is hyraulically operated perhaps all the air wasn't bled from it leaving it with a spongy pedal feel and insufficient travel.

Perhaps there is too many carpets under the clutch pedal. It is not unusual to have to press the pedal right to the floor with a brand new clutch.

If the gear lever selects all the gears easily with the engine off, but not when the engine is started, the problem is likely to be the clutch.
If the pedal feel is normal and there is maximum travel being delivered to the visible clutch mechanism the problem is likely to be inside, requiring the removal of the transmission.

Fusion problems sometimes car wont start on my 2003 semi auto. Brake wont depress, lights come on but engine wont start. Mechanic cannot find fault and car started no problem for him. The car will start...

That sounds sooooooooooooo like you have a bad starter. Broken teeth in the starter (which change positions with movement of the car, or even by tapping on the starter with a hammer) keep it working erratically. If you want to check this yourself, next time it wont start, locate the starter and whack it several times with a hammer. If it does you'll know you need a new starter. Also, make sure your battery posts and terminals are clean and securely tightened.

Clutch pedal is tight, stick shifter is tight. however it will not go into gear, with or without clutch pedal, and stays running, doesnt stall. new clutch three months ago

If your car wont go into gear when the engine is NOT started then you have a gearbox problem not clutch.you should still be able to get all gears without using the clutch pedal. The clutch is only there to stop you stalling when standing still,Its possible (but not nice)to drive and change gear without a clutch.Hope this helps.

Clutch pedal sticking

The clutch pressure plate might be weak in the manual transmission.

I wouldn't worry if it doesn't cause a problem in changing gears, until you have the clutch changed, if you ever get that far.

I have a 94TR magna 4cyl 5 speed manual clutch pedal problem

prob has little to no clutch fluid, to check this open the bonnet, in the engine bay next to the brake master cylinder there is a round clutch master cylinder, unscrew the cap and topp it up with brake fluid.
If the system has run dry you may need to bleed the system, if not completly empty should be able to pump it a few times and will come good.
If this is the case there is a leak somewhere...
