Hello.

I have a solution for you, as I see your same issue in my shop quite a bit...There are two possibilities:

You may have a broken wire. This is a very common issue.

Open up the trunk lid, and look at the hinge on the driver side. You will see a wiring harness, in a plastic tube, attached to the arm that holds th trunk lid to the car.... Remove the tubing, and follow the wires towards the back seat area. You are probably going to find a wire that has been broken, from the many actions of opening and closing the trunklid. Splice and resolder the wire, and you should be fine.

The other issue is the tallamp failure sensor may have burned out. This too is rather common. Open the trunk lid, and pull back the inner carpeting on the driver side of the trunk. Locate a small box (it will be white or blue), on a brace. The box is closer to the quater panel sheetmetal. Remove the box, and take it apart. If it looks or smells burnt, you need a new sensor.

1996 Camry reverse lights don't work

Check if you are getting power to the reverse light switch. Turn ignition on, disconect terminals to the switch and check for power on the positive terminal using a light bulb or a test meter whatever. If power is there jumpthe 2 terminals and check if light backup light works. If it does replace switch. If ther is no power at switch check wiring from fuse box. If light does not work when switch is jumped check wiring to back.

Instrument panel lite on 2000 toyota camry indicates backup lites out lites are on but very dim replaced all bulbs and fuses still doesnt work need help

Check for adequate grounding of these sockets!

A good bulb that's dim usually indicates a weak or broken ground path.

You should be able to use a test lead to offer the socket a good ground. If the dash light goes off, problem solved!

Resetting the check engine light

On my 2006 you set the odometer to the normal odometer mode using the button on the dash. When you get that setting, hold the button down until the display flashes. Once it begins to flash, let go of the button and then push it again. The light should then go out.
