I press in the clutch to start the car. let up on clutch with brake on engine runs. I press clutch in and put in 1st gear. let off clutch and engine runs but the car wont go forward and yes the brake is off. it does this in any gear. i noticed about a week ago that the clutch started feeling sluggish. HELP please.
SOURCE: BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON ENGINE RUNNING BUT CAR WONT DRIVE
there is a button on your brake pedal lever that while braking gets
depressed, and turns on your brake lights. Now this component is a
plastic piece that can get knocked loose rather simply. You either need
to re-secure this component, or replace it
(you can get this part at any junk yard for nothing more than some pocket change)

The last time this happened to me, the clutch cable had worn through the out cable housing and had to be replaced.
SOURCE: car does not drive forward but works in reverse
Sad to say but your automatic transmission has bit the dust.
SOURCE: car wont roll forward or back even in neutral
I assume it's a manual transmission.
If the car will not roll backward or forward in neutral (with or without the clutch engaged) the transmission is most likely locked in two gears at the same time.
This may happen if gear selectors are excessively worn. If you are able to examine the gear selection levers external to the gearbox, ensure they are in the 'neutral' (no gear selected) position when the gear lever is in Neutral. If not in correct position, you may be able to manually reset the levers to correct neutral position and thereby unlock the gearbox.
In any case, if it's happened once, it will happen again, so get the gearbox and gear selection mechanism checked for wear or breakage.
