There is one pump inside each fuel tank, u didn't say if u did or didn't have dual tanks, to check the pump turn the key to run and have someone listen a the filler neck with the gas cap off, u will hear a humming for a few seconds when the key is switched from off to run position, repeat the key cycling a few times to verify your results
With key on to "pump up" system, crack fuel line at filter to see if you have any pressure, if so , ,, maybe your IDM is low on oil, or fuel filter dirty?,
i forgot to add, on the output of the IDM is a small screen filter, check it for doodoo, after that it becomes a electrical circuit problem, i have the best luck with a full schematic ,,, you can trace all wires ,hookups, i got the whole 300 pages downloaded from my local library,

There is only one fuel pump and one injector pump,
to check if you have fuel to the injector pump you need to remove the filter cover on top of the engine, the only way to check fuel pressure on your truck is with a computer

Last time serviced? When did this begin? Wild guess you have a bad fuel filter restricting the fuel flow. Otherwise, a bad fuel pump, fuel pump relay, or other fuel delivery issues.
DIESELS DO NOT START FOR ONLY 3 REASONS.. 1. not getting fuel. 2. Glow plugs not working.. 3 major engine damage
1. air in system.. like you ran out of fuel, Fuel filter clogged, lift pump not working, no fuel in tank, Bad fuel. .. 2. glow plugs..check the wire at the glow plug to see if it has power. If it does not check the relay and fuse. glow plugs usually do not all go bad at one time. 3. major engine damage.. you would normally notice this by the noise the engine makes or it would not turn over..
2 things you need to know, 1 the fuel pump needs a relay this is a small elecro magnet type switch in the fuse box, normally a small black box. near the fuses. when you put the key in and turn 2 clicks it should click and then you should here a buzzing noise the noise is the pump working so if that noise is not there then you need to check the fuse, relay first as the pump will not work without them. secondly after you are sure these 2 are good while the buzzing noise is there the car should run, if not then the problem is not the pump
The fuel pump relay should have a schematic on it so you can check it with an ohm meter for a short. If it checks ok and when you turn the key on, you do not hear the pump then replace the pump
check to verify there's fuel pressure at fuel pump, always check for blown fuses first. if the fuel pressure is not present at the fuel rail then the pump is bad, providing that all fuses are good.
1. Does the pump actually run (key on engine off) pump should run for 2 seconds and go off and can be heard if you listen at the filler neck with the gas cap removed)
pump not running - Check relay (replace if bad) check wiring/fusese
Pump runs... go on to #2...
2. check the gas guage. is the gauge reading in the normal area it would read in or is it way way off like WAY above full or way below empty? This is a sign the electrical connection at the pump is plugged in backwards and the pump is spinning the wrong way and not picking up the fuel... (This is easy to get plugged in backwards inside the tank when installing the new pump)
3. Check for feed, return and vent lines being installed wrong where they attach to the tank... they can easily be hooked up wrong and fuel is either pumped up in to the return line or pumped in to the fuel tank vent line..
4. check for kinked or crushed fuel lines from tank to engine.
5. check fuel pressure regulator to be sure its not stuck open.
check the connector to the fuel pump for corrosion or loose pins, the fuel pumps of newer cars and trucks are designed to last at least 100,000 miles, when the new pumps quit did u verify they had power to them?
Crank position sensor bad? Are you sure the fuel pump is working? Might be the sending unit in the fuel pump that is bad. Clogged lines, clogged fuel injectors, clogged fuel filter, all things that could be checked.
