I was stopped at a top light with brakes applied and I was pushed into the truck ahead of me. It was icy so there was almost no shock. I thought the Air bags were going to explode but they didn't. My hood and radiator plus lights were badly damaged. By the time I got out of my car the guy behind me was gone. Is it normal for the air bags not to go off. Thanks
If the impact is not that severe the bag will not go off.cars now a day it doesn't take much to damage the front ends.if your bag deployed it could have broke your nose which is better than being really hurt but a lite impact its better the bag did not deploy please rate this answer thanks.
There are major casualties that can happen if airbag is not there in a car and accident has occurred with it. The role of the air bag in the car is to protect you when something wrong happens and it acts as a cushion for your body. When an accident happens from front, the first victim is the driver ashe is the person on steering. If a car is fitted with air bag, it worksas a cushion and when the car hit something, it comes between thedriver and the steering, which saves the driver from breaking his ribsand in this way it can save the life of the driver.
Most of the modern cars have the feature of air bags as safety concerns are of prime importance for all of us.

when air bag deployed most likely caused damage to connections -clockspring and components that your friend didnt repair or during replacement disconnected /damage components-
SIR DISABLE:
DRIVER SIDE
Many service procedures require the air bag system to be disabled to prevent accidental deployment. The air bag system can maintain sufficient voltage to cause deployment for up to 2 minutes after the ignition switch is turned off, the battery ground cable is disconnected or the DERM fuse is removed. If the inflator module is disconnected from the deployment loop by the following procedure, service can begin immediately without waiting for the 2 minute time period to elapse.
Turn steering wheel so that vehicle wheels are pointed straight ahead.
Turn ignition switch to Lock position and remove key.
Remove air bag fuse from fuse block.
Remove steering column filler panel.
Remove Connector Position Assurance (CPA) and disconnect yellow two-way connector at base of steering column, Fig. 1.
PASSENGER SIDE
Remove air bag fuse from fuse block.
SIR ENABLE:
Driver Side
Turn ignition switch to LOCK and remove key.
Connect yellow two-way connector and install connector position assurance (CPA).
Install steering column filler panel.
Insert air bag fuse into fuse block.
Turn ignition switch to RUN and verify that the air bag warning lamp flashes seven times then turns off.
Passenger Side
Turn ignition switch to LOCK and remove key.
Insert air bag fuse into fuse block.
Turn ignition switch to RUN and verify that the air bag warning lamp flashes seven times then turns off.
There is actually a recall on the toyotas for the air bag light coming on. Go to the dealer or call them and run your vehicle id number to see if the recall applies to you. If you are in an accident there is a good change the airbag will not work.
Be careful. You do not want the air bag to deploy on you suddenly. Check the air bag fuse on the vehical, it may need to be replaced. If your air bags have been deployed recently, the lights do not turn off until the dealer turns them off for you.
It really depends on the type of wreck you were in. Your seat belt being on or off does not have anything to do with whether or not the airbags would be deployed.
If they were not deployed it means that your car will not be labeled as totaled, which is a good thing.
problem may be the clock spring under the steering wheel .you need to have a shop c/k it out . the air bag light will not make the air bag deploy , its telling you the air bag is inoperative
