1998 c1500 chevy suburban makes a very loud squealing noise when i shift into reverse to back out of my driveway

I start my truck, it sounds ok, I shift into reverse to back out of my driveway, take my foot off brake, hit the gas and S-Q-U-U-E-E-A-A-L-L!!! It usually only happens when it has been parked for a few hours. What is it and how do I fix it?

not hard to replace just tedious.

  • apparently I was mistaken with the COMPLETE problem...the horrid squeal also happens when I try to accelerate quickly (kinda floor the gas)

do a brake check sounds like the wear bar is rubbing on the rotor.

  • ok I'll check it out, thanks

  • though my boyfriend seems to be convinced its the power steering pump...I think its the fuel pump...just cant prove it yet. BUT its sluggish to start lately ... IDK the damn thing is falling to bits, lol

if power steering pump is bad it might be hard to steer. Remove belt to see if noise goes away.

SOURCE: TRANSFER CASE IN A 93 CHEVY 1500

it sounds like it is going out, first try trans x, get it at Auto Zone, also check the transmission mounts, drop the tranny pan and check for metal shavings, and be very gentle, or it will be done

SOURCE: rear direrintial

The rear diff. turns the rear wheels. It is located in the middle of the rear axle. It won't last long if you ignore it. May just need dearing's but if it is driven the cog wheels will grind to dust or drop off this can cause the rear axle to seize up and can be a danger because the back wheels will lock up. If you are going to fix it yourself let me know and I will be able to guide you through the process

1998 land rover discovery transmission makes loud banging noise when shifting from pari to drive?

Tons of possibilities here (transmission, differential, motor mounts, transmission mounts....), so I'll ask some debug questions to help narrow it down. Does it make the noise when shifting into reverse? Also, does it make the noise only when shifting from park, or also when shifting from neutral (into drive or into reverse)? Did the noise start as an occasional, softer noise and get worse over time, or did it start suddenly? Does the vehicle lurch at the same time as the noise? What happens when you go from Reverse to Drive, or vice versa? Has any work been done recently (brakes, tires, alignment, suspension, transmission)?

Transmission Problems

sounds a little like timing chain jumped with all the hi voltage on emissions sensors. also check computer for faulty output voltage which could cause all the high voltage readings. Computer is set at 5.1vdc, any other like 6 volts or higher replace computer.

Rear end noise when turning truck is lifted. An it only does it when the wheels r turned. Where do I start to fix the problem

Start at the front wheel bearings its likely the sourse of the noise . If you modifited the suspention and it olny happens when the wheels are turning then its a wheel bearing . A nd the sound will tranfer all over the vehicle and make it hard to pin point sound travals . Look at your wheel bearings it can make a scarry noise but if you don't see fulid leaking all over the place and it shifts OK and runs OK then this is likely the problem

Yes the trans can wipe out the crank bearings or the spacer behind the crank(forget what its called) it can let the flexplate move and the bolts can hit. That may be what your hearing. Does it still have good oil pressure?

I replaced my starter for a 98 chevy suburban 2 weeks ago. I was hearing a loud clicking noise while starting my truck since then. I took my starter out today because it wouldnt start again. I would just...

Possible not shimmed correctly. The starter teeth have to engage correctly for the starter not to hang up. That's what probably happened & broke teeth off. You had better check your flywheel around the entire circumfrence as teeth may be missing from it as well. Starter won't engage if teeth and flywheel teeth in same spot are broken off. If the flywheel teeth are bad, it will be a spendy fix to put a new one on... Rick

Shifter cable broke in 1998 chevy suburban

Ok, Disconnect it from the Tranny First. This will make it easier to Fish Through. Connect the New Cable on the Tranny. Follow where the Old one Goes with the New one, Removing the Old one as you go. It will enter the Cab and work it's way up to the Sterring Column. You will Need to remove the Dash Panel to Access the Cable on the Shifter, It just Pulls Loose. You are at the Hardest Part of this at this Point. Let me know if you cannot access the Shifter From this Point. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!

1999 Chevy Suburban K1500 Transmission problems

Possible that it was damaged before and was over looked, or the transmission was not installed flush against the back of the engine block before the torque converter bolts were attached to the flexplate causing an abnormal wear and excessive stress causing it to break.
