If you have oil running down the side of the block (from above the oil pan) check the lower edge of the valve cover. Those gaskets often fail to seal when the fasteners eventually work themselves loose

Check the fasteners that secure the valve cover to the heads. Torque to 3 ft lbs.

If the leak persists... replace the gasket.

SOURCE: replaced rear main seals and oil pressure sending on a 2000 z71

Check the oil filter housing and the cooler lines at the housing. The oil filter housing gaskets are good for no more than 15k to 30k miles if your lucky. The lines at the housing are easy to strip out when you reinstall them so take your time if you do it yourself an once you are finished and ready to start the truck, let it run for about 15 minutes and constantly check the area for leaks prior to road testing the vehicle.

Oil leak front engine timing chan

1995 Tracker would have a timing BELT. Normal oil leak points (in order) on a Suzuki G16 engine are the distributor base (rear of motor), valve cover (top of motor), front main seal (behind lower timing belt cog) cam seal (behind the upper timing belt cog) and rear main seal. (behind the flywheel). I'd suspect the front main seal or cam seal. I use foot power to help find oil leaks.

I have a 02 Chevy tahoe....it sounds like coolant rushing throughout the engine while sitting at an idle and about every 2 or 3 days I gotta add coolant its not much also the low coolant light comes on...

I would perform a coolant pressure test because these engines are known for leaking intake manifold gaskets.Check and see if your oil is starting to turn a creamy tan color.

How do you get a rear main seal off. A friend siad you can use a scew driver to pop it off this is a toyota celica gt 2002 oh and what do you look for on the seal to determine it is bad will it only be...

Changing a rear main seal is a major repair. The transmission must be separated from the motor to get to it. The way you know a rear main seal is bad is that it will be leaking oil between the back of the engine and the front of the transmission. If it is not leaking oil, then leave it alone. If it is leaking then you have two options. Have some replace it by doing what I have just told you (call around, its probably pretty expensive). Or you can do what I would do, Just check your oil ALL the time and add oil when you need to. Put some cardboard under your car where the oil drips and leave it alone until you want to spend the money.

My Chevy 2002 Tahoe is leaking oil. They told me

this truck is equipped with an aluminum oil pan you could have 1 or several things going on... a stripped drain plug which is causing it to leak or it may be a leaking front seal or a rear main seal. If it is a front seal it is not to labor intensive. But if it is a rear main seal leaking it will require the transmission to be removed since the seal is a 1 piece rear main

1984 F150 302 Had oil pan gasket and both valve cover gaskets

you have several points to check!
the dip stick tube has a "O" ring seal at the bottom where it fits to tranny.
a reverse switch on tranny & the shifters selector shaft has a seal that may be leaking !
there are the cooler pipes from cooler to tranny [in & out] plus pump seal to the torque converter [leaks out between engine & tranny bellhousing] & then there are the drive shaft or shafts seals
so wipe it all clean & park it in a diffrent clean spot!
some will only leak when its runnung due to tranny,s internal pressure!

I have a oil leak on my 1990 buick skylark 2.5 motor coming from the back side of the motor i replaced the oil pan gasket the sending unit what could it be and how can i find it

I've had the same problem on other GM V6 motors. You need to have the rear main seal replaced to fix the leak. GM was notorius for oil leaks in those motors since the mid-80's and never did anything to fix the problem.

Oil leak

Two very likely sources for engine oil. You could have a valve cover leaking or a rear main seal. The best way to check is to trace the source of the oil. This requires a very thorough steam cleaning to remove all the old oil. Place an oil dye pack in the oil (about 3.50 at Napa and other parts stores). Run the engine for about 15 minutes and use a blacklight source and a mirror to check the back of the engine below the valve covers and closest to the firewall. Check out how the fresh oil floureces in the blacklight source by checking your dipstick for the color of the glow. If the back of the engine is dry and clean and your puddle is still glowing from between the engine and the transmission, you have a rear main seal and the transmission will need to be removed to change the seal. Spend the time on the diagnosis before you spend the money.

Can't get the old power steering pump off to install the new one

First of all why are you doing it? I am having an issue with my 02 Tahoe, 5.3, 4wd, that mainly when turning left, at any speed, usually when not on the gas, it is hard to turn. Feather the gas, and all is fine. Does occur to the right sometimes, but not as noticeable. I did order an new pump, and am changing it Friday night, Jan 2. I will let you know if you did not already complete.
