I've got a 1991 Dodge Dakota 5.2L (auto. transmission). I first had problems with it cranking but not starting. Later it would suddenly shutdown, sometimes while idling, sometimes while driving at highway speed. It is an intermittent problem that has left me stuck on the roadside on more than one occasion. I've replaced: ignition coil, pick-up coil, distributor cap, and ignition rotor. Any ideas?

For clarification: It is fuel injected. When it is acting up, it cranks over fine but it won't start (as if the engine is turning but not trying to fire). Have not replaced ignition module. Problem has occurred both when hot and when cold. It is currently running fine but it will occur again. Also, on one occasion, acted underpowered (but didn't run rough) driving down the highway and it would rev up to high rpms before shifting and would downshift when going up a slight hill and rap out. Wouldn't go over about 40-45 mph. After being parked for about 30 minutes, went back to normal (not sure if this is related to the other problem or not).
Is your truck fuel injected? Does the truck crank over fine but no start? Just trying to narrow things down to try and help.
