How to remove heater core

Unless you have driven through deep water or the vehicle has leaked from torrential rain I would suggest that your heater core up under the dash or the hoses to it are leaking.
Depending on the situation you would have it repaired or replaced or by pass or block the hoses so it can be driven until repairs are carried out. ( Hope it's not too cold there)

There's a heater core box where radiator coolant passes through. When you turn on the heater, the fan on the heater core box blows air through the core, then the air is heated up and it passes through the air ducts, which leads to the windshield defroster, the vents, or your feet depending on where you set the control. If you're not feeling heat, either the fan on the heater core box is not working, or there's restriction on the coolant hoses and hot coolant isn't passing through the heater core box. Remove and diagnose the heater core box to ascertain the coolant lines are not blocked and the fan is fully operational. If the heater core box is OK, then the hoses have restriction to prevent hot coolant from passing through the heater core box.

the heater core requires several components to the dash to be removed but the dash itself stays put. not a fun job laying under the dash on the pass side

it sounds like your haeter core has sprung a leak. you can by-pass it by removing your heater hoses and conecting them together with a splice pipe till you can replace the heater core, but you will need to do so the by pass or heater core replacement soon or your car will start to overheat.

You hot air comes from the water circulated through the heater core. It is like a miniture radiator with water flowing thru it constantly. So by opening the "Blend Door" you are permitting so much of this hot air to pass thru.

Seems like for some reason your heater core is plugged up. Just like a radiator can be. So water may be passing through your heater core but not passing through fully. Your heater core gets hot from water passing throught it from the engine. Then your doors open up, in proportion to how much air is permitted to pass over the heater core.

Suggest to remove the heater core and replace it. Seems the blend doors are working properly but again, if you have a non working heater core then no air can pass over the "Hot Core" for you to recieve hot air.

If you are not mechanically inclined, then go to a local parts store and you can buy a car manual, such as Chilton's or Hane's Car manuals, for your year and make to show you how to replace it. Then you can also have it for any other problems that may arise.

1. drain cooling system
2. disconnect heater hoses from engine side of firewall from the heater core,
3. remove nessicary dash panels and covers to access heater box.
4. unbolr heater core and remove.
5. reverse to install.
6. fill cooling system, making sure to purge the air from the cooling system.
7. YOUR DONE

i dont know where emissionwiz gets his information. go to pass side and remove lower kickpanel on center console. remove black plastic clips on heater core lines. remove the phillip head screw on retaining clip and slide out heater core. all this after draining coolant. should take about 20 min.

When I replaced the heater core on my 95 Suburban, I seem to remember having to disconnect the A/C lines on the firewall for the evaporator. There were also several nuts to remove on the engine firewall side from studs on the heater box that pass thru the firewall. It is definately a lot of work.

Remove the heater hose clamps and the hoses from the engine side of the firewall. From the inside under the dash on the pass. side, remove the lower panel screws and slowly pry the lower cover down and the heater core will slide out of the heater box. Installation is reverse of removal.
