There is a recall on the electrical for the brake light switch on the several versions of the Santa Fe. I know it includes the 2007-2009. It may go deeper. There is also a recall for the airbag switch on these models. Fixing the brake light switch generally fixes a list of other issues that may have developed. Reference "Repair Pal"
Hyundai Santa Fe Recalls RepairPal for a quick, sufficient description of the issues, then check with your dealer to make sure your vehicle has been upgraded.

Cheers and Smiles!

First, before you try to do anything with the steering wheel/column, disconnect the battery and take a 10 minute break. If you hit the wrong contact with power attached you may find yourself in the market for a new $685 air bag.

There are several options for the "remote controls" which is how Hyundai identifies the audio and cruise control on the steering wheel. The original part for the urethane steering wheel has been discontinued and a new part is specified. Whichever selection your need, one or both controls, plastic (urethane) or leather, 3 or 4 spokes, you can get it for about $78 at the link below (make sure you change your search to the year of your vehicle - there are several changes every year or two). The middle area of the steering wheel pops off with a couple of screw driver pokes through the access holes in the side. Here's a video in Spanish (for English turn on the CC or just watch with the sound off and you'll get it) Be careful replacing the controls, it has some pretty delicate wires that look like they are about 22 guage.

A2005 santafe: after searching internet besides the tail lite filaments as cause for malfunction of cruise control (cruise lite on but cannot set/or accelerate. I read a post by a Hyundai service tec that said every third santafe with that prob the switch on steering was faulty.
Two phillips screws removes the switch unit and unplug is easy from harness. There are two printed circuit boards that are perpendicular to each other and are electrically joined by four (4) soldered pins from one board to the other....a gentile wiggle of that joint revealed that the solder joints were broken on one or two of the four...... with a FINE solder tip you can re-solder those loose joints being very careful NOT to bridge one pin to another......repair 100%

2003 oldsmobile alero v6 -- cruise control stopped working...The cruise on/of button lights up, the green light cruise indicator comes on in the dash panel, but cruise control does not engage when CST SET...

Try checking the small switch at the top of the brake pedal. There may be two one for brake lights and one for the cruise control. To ascertain what is what, pull one wire off and see if brake lights work. If not, then the other switch controls the cruise control disconnect and engage..I you have a DC test light check to see if power is on on both side of the switch with brake pedal up. If so, depress pedal and check power on the other side there should be none, if there is the switch is defective.

Cruise control not working sets but no cruise//

Go to Auto Zone for a FREE scan of your vehicles computer. It sounds like the vehicle speed sensor control (VSS) for your trans is bad. They will find out exacxtly what the problem is if so. The VSS is linked to your computer for the cruise as well

I have a 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe that we just purchased. The cruise control light comes on but when we try to set the speed it won't engage.

Easiest way to check the brake switch is to have one person step on the brake pedal, and another get behind the truck to see if the brake lights come on.  If the brake switch is good, you may need to have the truck checked out at the dealer.  Yes, we love Hyundai.  We've had 2 Elantra's and my wife has a Tucson.

When driving, Speedodometer drops to zero.

I thought this year of Santa Fe had a 100k Warranty? If so, take it to the dealer and get it fixed. Even if it's not under warranty, take it and get it fixed! This is dangerous to use with the cruise control!! Do not use the Cruise Control until you get this fixed. It sounds like a bad speedomoter sensor, and that is confusing the Cruise Control. Either your speedometer is going to stop working altogether, or your going to RAM someone from behind going at a DANGEROUS rate of speed. Take it and get it fixed, and do not use the Cruise Control until it is fixed.

Cruise light turns on but set light does not

Sure enough babe! Often the problem is in the CONTROL BUTTONS (those on the steering wheel)... Yet again, I've see the problem point to the Cruise Control Module (Under the hood). Since you mentioned the 'CRUISE' light comes ON, but nothing else is working, I'd hazard a guess the control buttons are malfunctioning. If you press them REAL HARD, do they work? Otherwise, Take the vehicle into a Hyundai Service Center (dealership), pay the diagnostic fee. They will tell you EXACTLY what the problem is and what's needed to fix it (parts, labor, tax, time-frame, etc.).

Auto has 23K and cruse stopped working. checked

I had the same problem with my 2003 santa fe. Do you have any brake lights out in back? Weird as it is, as soon as I fixed a burned out brake bulb, my cruise worked again. The only relation I can think of is that tapping the breaks causes cruise to turn off - so maybe a broken brake/tail light passes a singal to cruise control from some reason???

CRUISE CONTROL

My 2003 Ram 1500, would not engage the cruise control, when the speed sensor on the rear axle, was the problem. The other symptoms, speedometer worked irregularly. Replaced speed sensor on top center of rear axle, and problem went away.
